The NBA is arguably the biggest basketball league in the world. Budding basketball enthusiasts around the world aspire all their lives to make it to the league. Interestingly, some players who are already in the league sometimes opt for other leagues around the world owing to less competition and better pay in many cases. A Philadelphia 76ers star playing alongside Joel Embiid and James Harden is best known for his exploits abroad.
The player in question is a league veteran who spent a significant time of his career playing in Israel and many other countries. During a recent podcast appearance, he talked about his experiences there.
NBA star does not regret leaving the league for Israel

PJ Tucker was a decent 2nd round pick during the 2006 NBA draft. A lot wasn’t expected from him, and the Toronto Raptors drafted him. The rookie had an underwhelming debut season, and he was cut from the team the next season.
Interestingly, one of his associates had a very unorthodox idea. He suggested that the 22-year-old leave the NBA and take his talents to European leagues like Israel. Just 16 years after taking this huge decision which boosted his career, PJ Tucker opened up on his experiences during a podcast with Golden State Warriors legend Andre Iguodala.
“We go to Israel, X amount of money. I’m like, ‘Aight, tell him I’m gonna go’.I don’t know why, but I heard Sam’s voice I swear. It is the best thing I ever did”, said Tucker.
From 2007 to 2013, the 38-year-old spent his time in other leagues around the world. PJ Tucker has played 2 seasons in Israel and Ukraine while also having short stints in Greece, Germany, and Italy.
PJ Tucker’s second NBA stint was very successful
Tucker was an MVP and a league winner in Israel. There is no denying that he had the basketball prowess within himself and his time away from the league certainly helped him achieve that.

Once he was back in the league, there was no stopping PJ Tucker. He has turned into one of the most reliable role players in the league over the years. In fact, he had a huge role in helping Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks win the 2021 NBA title. Currently, he plays for the 76ers with a career average of 6.8 points, 1.4 assists and 5.5 rebounds.
