Winning an NBA championship is a big deal because over 90% of the players never get the honor throughout their lives. It is the ultimate prize and not getting close to it can be an exhaustive practice. In a league as talented as the NBA with 30 teams, the odds are low. Unless the team is a dynasty or has a special mix, they stand no chance. Therefore, it is not surprising that as many as 11 teams in the current pack have never won a chip. With such low odds, many elite players can face frustration. Damian Lillard’s example is huge, but with the Bucks, he now has a huge chance.

Then there is Bradley Beal, who has been a lightning scorer but has never even enjoyed a Conference Finals trip. However, this may change this season as he pairs up with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.

Phoenix Suns gave up Chris Paul and a bunch of draft picks to get Beal. The Shooting Guard waived his no-trade clause and indicated that he was done with the Wizards after 11 years. The Sharpshooter averaged 30+ points twice with the Wizards.

Last season, he averaged 23.2 points and shot a career-high 50.6% from the field. Such an efficient performance emerges out of an impressive dribbling and off-the-ball game.

Despite never getting past the second round with the Wizs and being unable to even make the Playoffs repeatedly, his mindset speaks volumes. Talking to Andscape, he revealed how he felt, going into every season with the Wizards.

He said, “I’m crazy. I’m naïve. I’ll always feel like I can win a championship at the beginning of every year. But this is the first time I can say in my career I legitimately feel like to start the year I have a legit chance of competing for a championship”.

However, he also admitted that the recent change means that anything apart from the NBA title makes no sense.

Durant is himself an efficient scorer and playing alongside him means no shortage of open looks. But then you have Booker who has a similar effect on defense. Therefore, Beal can be even more deadly in all aspects. These three have shown great chemistry together because Beal is a willing passer.

In that relation, he laid out his lofty goals, stating, “To know that our goal is a championship — it’s not first round, second round, it’s not make the playoffs, it’s not make the play-in. No, we want to hold up to Larry [O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy] at the end of the year and that definitely changes your mental for sure.”.
