How long can LeBron James keep pushing his body? You look at the best athletes in the world. They reach their prime by 28-32 and that’s it. They call it a day. Only an athlete like LeBron can keep going even if he’s 39. Another exception is Cristiano Ronaldo as well. This December 30th, James turns 40 and questions arise about his retirement plans. Will this be the last time King James graces this league with his greatness? Well, I assume he will hang up his sneakers.
Moreover, one of his best pals, Draymond Green, discussed LeBron James’ current situation in his podcast, The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis. Those stats are coming down for LeBron as he averaged 19.4 points in his last 10 games. Likewise, he often turns the ball over with around 5.1 per game and his FG% stands at 43.8. Those numbers don’t paint a pretty picture.
Examining Bron’s current slump, Green, questioned, “Is father time catching up with Bron?” He certainly thinks it is. James’ slump was attributed to two factors, as he pointed out. The number one reason is the most obvious: AGE! “The answer is yes, because every year we get older in this league. Every year you get older and there’s a point where you come in this league and every year, you get older you get better. Because you get more experience. You get more into your prime,” said Green, reiterating the point discussed before.

Curious to know the stats of LeBron at age 28, in his prime probably? He averaged around 26.8 points, went all in on boards with 7.3 rebounds, and dished out 7.3 assists. He won the title with the Miami Heat in the same age bracket and earned his 4th regular season MVP title. But because he is a superhuman, he won his 4th title at age 35 with the Los Angeles Lakers fetching 27.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 8.8 assists. Quite incredible, but that’s Bron for you!
Draymond continued, “You get stronger and then, it gets to a point where every year you get older, you have to address and adjust. Because now, you’re over the hill of the more experience you get, the better it is for you. You kinda over that hill now. And so, his father time catching into him. Absolutely! Because father time catches up to everyone.”

Everyone ages unless you are nearly immortal like Thor. For LeBron, there might be one more factor that caused him to fall down the ladder in the last 10 games.
Is LeBron James’ fitness levels going down?
Last year, he didn’t get proper rest playing games left, right, and center. Green pointed out, “But, you also have to remember is, you know, they played into the playoffs last year. They fought an uphill battle to actually make it there, to get to the playoffs.” Last year, the Los Angeles Lakers finished the season in seventh place. In addition, the Lakers competed in a play-in tournament against the New Orleans Pelicans, as James scored 23 points.

After that exploit, he faced the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs. Yet, they succumbed to a 4-1 loss against Nikola Jokic and co. ending hopes of a 5th NBA title. After that, the Paris Olympics schedule came in as Green stated, “And then he comes in and does the Olympics. And that is a two-month, a two-month requirement. No time-off. So I think right now, Bron has hit a little bit of a wall right now.”
Although Team USA won the gold medal, LeBron didn’t get any rest. As Green mentioned, he “looked quite tired”, in the end. It’s true. How far can a guy close to his 40s push himself? We might see King James leave his throne and rest on his laurels with his son now in the Lakers. Do you think LeBron will retire this season?
