The Golden State Warriors first in-season tournament game against the Oklahoma City Thunder ended in a controversial fashion. The Warriors managed to keep their winning streak alive by beating the Thunder 141-139. With three seconds left on the clock and the score tied at 139, Stephen Curry produced some late-game magic and hit a game-winning layup over Chet Holmgren to seal the game for the Warriors. But it was Warriors Center Draymond Green?s potential goaltending rim touch on the shot that left the NBA World buzzing.

Even Warriors Head Coach and 9-time Champion Steve Kerr had no clue whether Steph?s shot would count or the game would go into overtime because of Draymond?s actions.

The game between the Warriors and the Thunder was a heated battle from the tip-off. Both teams produced a scoring showdown and took the game to the wire. Stephen Curry split the defense to hit the game-winning layup, but the basket was overturned by the referees for an offensive goaltend. Upon review, it was revealed that Draymond Green hit the rim while Steph?s shot was still bouncing on the rim. While the announcers were sure that it was a goaltend by Draymond and the game would head to overtime, the referees overturned the call and counted the basket. That controversial call ended the game, and the Warriors kept their winning streak alive.

After the controversial finish, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was asked if he thought Stephen Curry?s game-winner should have been counted. ?I?m not quite sure of the rule.? Kerr said. Even the 9-time Champion was clueless about the goaltending rule and was happy about escaping with a win.

Why was Draymond?s goaltending call overturned?

The officials announced that although Draymond touched the rim on Steph?s game-winner, his action did not affect the ball’s trajectory. The announcers and the Thunder fans in the arena were livid about the call and booed the referees. The announcers claimed they had never seen such a call in their careers, and anytime a player touches the rim on the shot, it is called a goaltend.

Upon further analysis of the footage, it can also be seen that Thunder player Josh Giddey pulled the net before Draymond Green touched the rim. Therefore, the call could have easily been overturned to a defensive goaltend, and that would also have resulted in the same outcome. Whatever the case may be, the Warriors-Thunder game was great, and it will be talked about for days because of its controversial finish. Do you think the referees made the right call?
