Should Bronny James get his own Call of Duty skin, or is it just LeBron's influence?

“Ayyyeeeee!!! He really like that on that Duty!” LeBron James was quick to send out his praise for Bronny after he secured a major milestone, but with video games, during the Summer League. Thanks to social media, fans often get glimpses of father and son bringing out their PlayStation 5 and spending quality time. However, while the 22-season veteran prefers Madden 5, his son is known to lean towards Call of Duty. While he has the gaming experience, is it enough to have the player receive his own ‘skin?’

LeBron James certainly seems to think so. Earlier today, the 39-year-old Lakers star took to his official X account and wrote, “Bronny just said he want his own “Skin.” @Activision @CallofDuty talk to me.”

As highlighted by another X account, an hour after LeBron James’ tweet started making waves, the official Call of Duty page apparently denied the collab, blatantly, stating, “We’re going to pass on that, sorry Bron.” However, any longtime NBA fans who glanced more closely at who highlighted COD’s apparent tweet, and even checked the comments, knew that this was all trolling.

After a serious layer of research by EssentiallySports’ Fact Check Team, it’s quite evident the tweet was re-posted by ‘NBACentel’, a parody account of the highly followed ‘NBACentral’. The troll page is widely known to put out false information that references any current trend in the hoops world.

From highlighting a somewhat inappropriate remark that Draymond Green (did not) ‘put out’ about LeBron James to ‘revealing’ the ‘true reason’ (not the true reason, of course) why Kevin Durant is single at the moment, the parody account simply makes use of existing narratives and tweaks them at the expense of the players. Therefore, no tweet from their side is to be taken seriously.

Most importantly, the official X account of Call of Duty did respond to LeBron James’ tweet, though it wasn’t the response that ‘NBACentel’ highlighted. In fact, the gaming series seemed quite interested in the prospect of teaming up, as they wrote, “We know Bronny is a shooter, let’s talk. First father son duo in NBA history. Could be a #CallOfDuty first too.”

Should Bronny James get his own Call of Duty skin, or is it just LeBron's influence?

Have an interesting take?

The long-running video game series has recently been making use of pop culture references to add a unique approach, alongside inducing excitement amongst their fans. From adding Homelander, Starlight, and Black Noir skins from the hit series ‘The Boys’, to even featuring Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant as an Operator of the SpecGru faction in the main games and his skin in the mobile version, now taking in both LeBron and Bronny James wouldn’t be something totally out of the box for them.

Even though Bronny has been struggling to leave a mark on the court, he remains the most talked about NBA prospect, probably because of his father’s influence. According to reports, when the Lakers jerseys carrying the rookie’s name and No. 9 first hit the markets, almost 500,000 pieces were sold within the first 24 hours!

The same phenomenon may even be reflected in the sale of the video game as well if a partnership deal works out. While we are not sure how the public as a whole would react to the father-son duo being present in the shooter video game, we know for a fact that Bronny James is going to grab it on Day 1 and set a high score. After all, he hasn’t shied from showing his skill with the game before.

Did Bronny James beat all his other peers in the Call of Duty Summer League special tournament?

Despite recording not-so-jaw-dropping stats during his college tenure, Bronny James ended up being taken as the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. Things didn’t shape up for him in the Summer League too, and he only averaged 8.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1 assist over 4 games. Despite this, he did have a memorable night when all his peers took to the controller instead of the court to train!

Back in mid-July, in the popular two-minute drill contest segment of Modern Warfare III held between NBA players, Bronny James accumulated over 84 kills to his name, which was one more than that of Hornets‘ star Grant Williams.

At the same time, Pistons rookie Bob Kintman raked in 77 kills, while Raptors addition DJ Carton ranked 4th. King James’ son had also broken the previous year’s record of 59 points that was set by OKC’s Jaylin Williams by a long way!

This allowed Bronny to win the annual tournament, and walk away with $10,000 along with a custom Call of Duty championship belt. Even though his father is the only active NBA billionaire, the five-figure prize would certainly be a nice addition to the player’s stack.
