Well, it’s finally over! After months of competing and going through their usual ups and downs, the Celtics have emerged victorious. By defeating the Mavs with a 4-1 score in the NBA Finals, they have secured the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time since 2008. Barely a few minutes after Game 5, the celebration was being taken to the locker room, and the ceremonial champagne was popped to mark the victory. However, Jayson Tatum and his son spent a moment on the side to fully absorb this feeling of happiness.

As clips of the locker room celebration are being shared around social media, one of them captured Jayson and Deuce standing away from the nucleus of the party. Certain emotions seemed to be reflecting on the 26-year-old’s face as he hugged the iconic Larry O’Brien trophy. Deuce, possibly looking to not get any champagne dropped on his face, was wearing goggles provided courtesy of Michael Jordan’s brand. Both father and son wore caps with the words “NBA CHAMPIONS 2023-24”. Tatum would later borrow the goggles to protect his eyes while his face and head were fully drenched with champagne.

Deuce seemed to be in awe of his father after the latter achieved the dream he had worked towards for the last seven years of his NBA career. According to ‘The Athletic’ reporter Jay King, Jayson Tatum revealed how his 6-year-old told him he was the best in the world. To this, the player replied, “You’re damn right I am”. After all, if winning an NBA championship does not give you a free pass from being a bit non-humble, then what does?

The father-son duo already seemed to have made plans on what to do about the NBA championship trophy. As they were walking along the corridor with more than half a dozen cameras pointed at their face, Deuce could be heard saying, “Give it so I can hold this”. In turn, Jayson Tatum replied, “You gonna put it in your room?”

Jayson Tatum cries while holding his son: “We did it!”

Jayson Tatum was already shaping up to be the focus of the night after he dropped 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists. However, what truly captured the hearts of people was not what he did on the court, but what he was seen doing alongside his son after the win. As the enclosed area around the TD Garden arena was filling up with confetti, Jayson Tatum could be seen bending down, covering his face. Deuce, standing right beside him, proceeded to give the player a hug while audibly exclaiming, “Daddy”. In turn, the NBA champion picked him up high and loudly exclaimed, “We did it”. The crowd just couldn’t get enough of this wholesome moment.

Despite the fact he and Deuce’s mother may not be together, Jayson Tatum has made it a priority to be a prominent part of his son’s life. During an interview, he was quite open about how having a child taught him “a sense of responsibility” and how he’s glad “knowing that there’s a 6-year-old ‘mini me’ essentially watching everything that I do”. Therefore, if there is anyone who deserved to share this core memory with Jayson Tatum, it was his 6-year-old boy.
