Lionel Messi’s move to MLC has taken USA soccer to new heights. The legendary Argentinian striker still has a lot to offer as a player. He inked a deal that pays him more than $50 million a year, a salary that rivals NBA greats like Kevin Durant and Nikola Jokic. One other player is also in the tangle. This time it is about the representation of sports personalities on a platform called Apple TV+.

Apple, which owns Apple TV+, recently recorded over $3 trillion market cap. Amidst this development, why did Apple TV+ choose Messi over Stephen Curry as their website’s face?

MLC’s broadcasting rights belong to Apple TV+ which signed the deal for $2.5 billion for ten years. This is an enormous deal considering they can show a phenom like Messi regularly. The boost to USA soccer is reaching unprecedented heights. With the women’s program already generating a lot of traction, the turn to soccer from Apple TV+ is a direct result of Messi’s movement to a different continent.

The price tag is humongous, and this is barely a surprise. He continues to fill up stadiums for Inter Miami and this change of league has brought further limelight on a great player.

Avid soccer fans need no introduction when it comes to Messi. They have seen it all. In that context, Apple TV+ has to pay Messi his respect. He traveled a long way and rejected a whopping $1 billion offer from the Saudi Arabian Football League. He signed a contract worth way less, but the popularity of the soccer star has swept the American sports landscape.

This leads to another pertinent question. What about Stephen Curry’s breakthrough work Stephen Curry: Underrated? This documentary talks in-depth about the Golden State Warriors superstar and has a cinematic touch with lovely wide camera shots.

This mixture of high-level choreography and Curry’s life story gives Apple TV+ great artistic work.
