LeBron James is a household name for greatness in professional basketball. At 38 years old, Bron is the oldest player playing in the league and he is setting a new standard of longevity. The first milestone is complete for LeBron’s Lakers after winning the first-ever In-Season trophy. James added one more achievement by winning the tournament MVP. He has many more seasons left before he retires. So how is LeBron locked in greatness even in his 21st season?

Former NFL legend Shannon Sharpe speaks about what has allowed James to continue to excel. It’s a mindset now that many young athletes follow.

The former host of First Take is outspoken about his opinions. Several times, he has publicly criticized LeBron. That comes from the set expectations. However, when it is due, Shannon Sharpe is the first to chime in. While speaking with NBA shooting trainer Chris Matthews, Sharpe says that LeBron has managed to avoid major injuries and maintain a sharp mind and body. He praised James’s peak physical condition and his commitment to studying the game, noting that James still enjoys attending early morning meetings and learning new plays. Sharpe added that LeBron “started this from day one”.

LeBron’s ability to stay mentally sharp, and maintain a healthy body, is a significant factor in his sustained success. Although Sharpe has ‌been an admirer of LeBron, there were instances where he criticized the King.

Sharpe once criticized LeBron James in a controversial take on his time with the Miami Heat. In a panel discussion on First Take, Sharpe was responding to LeBron’s declaration. He disagreed with James’ claim that his career would have been the same if he hadn’t played for the Miami Heat. “I strenuously disagree with what he said,” Sharpe said. If his prediction about LeBron’s mindset is correct, then the argument that LeBron’s tenure at the Heat is the reason he is in the GOAT conversations at all cannot work. James’s success is due to his efforts, and it can be argued that he would have achieved it regardless of his presence with any specific team.

More recently, the two were caught in a crossfire over LeBron James’ comments about being present for his son Bronny’s debut at USC. The veteran claimed that he would even miss any important game, as it was always family over everything. But Sharpe disagreed with this and asked if Bron would miss the game if it was a playoff game 7. While James rarely responds, it seemed like he was taking a dig at the NFL veteran with a story to his Instagram.
