Despite Several Accusations, Ja Morant’s Father Tee Earns the Respect of $260 Million NBA Star

In the dazzling world of the NBA, where fame and controversy often intertwine, one name that has been under scrutiny is Tee Morant, the father of the Memphis Grizzlies’ star player, Ja Morant. Despite the fame and controversies surrounding him, Tee Morant has managed to earn the respect of NBA star Tyrese Haliburton, who signed a five-year $260 million contract extension with the Indiana Pacers.

Speaking to Kevin Garnett in his KG-certified podcast, Haliburton talked about his father who is always on the bleachers showing his support for his son. The point guard shared, “That’s what the NBA does better than any league is. We as a league, we empower black fathers.” At the same time, the 23-year-old acknowledged that people on social media can get annoyed with the attention that they get sometimes.

To this, Haliburton said, “…how can you get annoyed with a man showing love to his son? You know you see it with like Ja’s Dad and Karl Town’s Dad, LaMelo’s Dad.” In the end, the Pacers guard hoped that he would be half the father that his dad is to his son. The addition of Tee Morant is shocking considering the controversies that he is facing these days owing to his son, Ja Morant.

The many controversies surrounding Tee Morant

Things started going downhill for the Morant family after Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension this summer. ESPN released a story earlier in October chronicling the downfall of the 24-year-old point guard and his father’s role in instigating his son’s destructive behavior. The story highlighted the senior Morant hosting VIP parties at nightclubs, getting into a confrontation with Shannon Sharpe at a Lakers game, and even arguing with the Pacers players during a game.

A Grizzlies team source was quoted attributing some of Ja Morant’s behavior to his father, saying, “Tee has been a major driving force in all of this. He never made the NBA, but this was his chance to live like he’s an NBA superstar. That’s been a problem from the beginning.”
