Hitting a three-pointer is paramount for a guard in today’s league. It is tough to be a marquee player for a PG who struggles with long-range shots. Some of the players who relied on their athleticism more than their shooting range are fading away bit by bit. Under such challenging conditions, any missed shots during even a light practice get intensely examined.

On the receiving end was one of the most disrespected players in the current NBA. As he engages in a casual shoot-around, many NBA fans had some fun with it.

The waning impact of Russell Westbrook

Despite being an MVP in the 2016-2017 season, Russell Westbrook finds himself on the precipices of his NBA career. One of the biggest reasons for that has been his inability to hit the outside at a high clip. During a practice session of Nike EYBL, the guard took three shots from beyond 30 feet and missed them all.

Then he is seen fumbling the dribble multiple times. To make matters worse, he tries a half-hearted lay-up which is blocked by a young player. This is the video shared by Overtime, where the former Oklahoma City Thunder Guard is unable to cash in from outside.

For his career, he has shot just 30.5% from beyond the arc, with many seasons tabbing under the 30% mark. The guard’s form is going downhill, and he had to even come off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers last season. He got traded to the Clippers and his game style didn’t bring any major benefits to the squad.

Things have become so pale for Beastbrook that he had to settle for a $8 million contract for two years, in a market where role players like Dillon Brooks are earning $20 million a year.

The internet rolls the guard

For someone who commanded a salary close to $50 million a year, the loss of athleticism has lowered his value. Despite that, he still managed average close to 16 points, over seven assists and over six rebounds a game last season. However, he isn’t bringing in many wins at this point in his career. His current reputation has made him a subject of mockery among NBA fans.

Responding to the disastrous shooting session, a user pointed out how underwhelming this casual shootaround looked:

While this casual shoot-around doesn’t do favors to his reputation as a shooter, Russ remains a high-quality player. He still has unfinished business and his response in the next season will be intriguing to see.
