Luka Don?i?'s $46M salary—why hesitate on a dream purchase? What would you do in his shoes?

Luka Dončić is renowned not only for his prowess on the basketball court but also for his impressive car collection. At the recent Jordan Family Tour event in China, Dončić hinted at the extent of his automotive passion.  The Mavs star revealed that he has 13 cars in his collection. When asked if he had cars all over the world, Dončić answered in the affirmative. “Some in Slovenia, some in Dallas,” he said. Despite owning 13 cars, his journey to complete his dream collection has hit an intriguing roadblock.

Dončić’s annual salary of $40.06 million puts him in a financial position to make nearly any car purchase he desires. However, even with such a substantial income, he’s cautious about splurging on his dream car. In his interview with Overtime, he revealed his dream car. “It’s a Bugatti, but it’s too expensive, so we’ll see about that one.” The Bugatti is a costly brand, with prices ranging from $1 million to $18 million. Even LeBron James doesn’t own a Bugatti. In fact, not many sportspersons can boast of owning a Bugatti. Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr, Super Bowl champ Tom Brady, and NBA legend Michael Jordan are among the few sports celebrities who have a Bugatti.

Despite no Bugatti, Dončić’s car collection is one of a kind. This includes a red Ferrari 812 Superfast, a blue 1968 Chevrolet Camaro, a Jeep Gladiator Apocalypse Hellfire 6×6, a Porsche Panamera, and many more. The player had an immediate answer when asked about his favorite car in the collection. “Brabus Rocket is my favorite car.” One of Luka Dončić’s recent purchases is the Brabus Rocket 1000. The Brabus Rocket 1000 features a top speed of 196 mph. It is also known for its luxurious interior, which includes bespoke leather upholstery and advanced tech features. This combination of power and luxury makes it a standout in Dončić’s growing collection of high-end cars. Further, when asked about his next purchase, he said, “It’s probably Lamborghini.” He already owns a purple fluorescent Lamborghini Urus.

The Dallas Mavericks guard’s thoughtful approach to his next major purchase reflects a larger trend of wealthy individuals being cautious with luxury investments. Other NBA stars, despite their wealth, demonstrate a similar blend of excitement and caution in their automotive preferences. The car aspirations of LeBron James present an interesting parallel to Dončić’s current dilemma.

It turns out that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is a passionate car enthusiast. His extensive collection includes some of the most exclusive vehicles on the market, such as the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, and Ferrari 458 Spider. Recently, James has set his sights on acquiring a particularly rare and coveted car: the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet.

LeBron James shared his admiration for the G650 Landaulet on his Instagram story, where he posted pictures of the $1,800,000 vehicle. In his post, James wrote, “Wow Wow Wow!!! Whoever owns this and doesn’t want it anymore, contact me ASAP!!!” The G-Wagon, adorned with a green overlay and a tan interior, is one of only 99 ever made and none were delivered to the United States. James’s excitement over the car is palpable, as he expresses his enthusiasm for potentially adding this rare gem to his collection.

What’s your perspective on:

Have an interesting take?

The G650 Landaulet’s rarity is due to its limited production. Furthermore, no units were originally sent to the U.S. However, the Specialty Car Collection sold a few of these exclusive models in California in 2020. This makes it a sought-after prize for car aficionados like LeBron James. This explains why James is so eager to acquire the vehicle, and it aligns with his competitive spirit. Perhaps the motivation to win the inaugural in-season tournament trophy is partly driven by the $500,000 prize money. This could contribute to purchasing the G650 Landaulet.
