Will Jaxson Hayes' NBA career survive the shocking revelations from the resurfaced footage?

Jaxson Hayes might be in big trouble. Only 3 years ago, the then-Pelicans star got involved in an altercation with his then-girlfriend Sofia Jamora. The reported case of domestic disturbance even led to the Center’s arrest and a legal battle that is still ongoing.

While Hayes’ NBA career has been smooth so far despite the off-court controversy, it could all change, as a recently surfaced security camera footage of the incident reveals shocking details of what transpired that night, even garnering the league office’s attention.

TMZ released an over five-minute long Ring camera footage on Saturday, the timestamp of which read July 28, 2021. It shows Jamora pleading with Hayes and his cousin to leave the house at 1:35 AM. “No. Stop. I don’t feel safe. Jaxson, stop,” Jamora requests, as Jaxson refuses to leave.

Then, she immediately rushes to another room with the Center following her. While the camera does not catch what happens inside, Jamora can be heard telling Hayes, “Don’t touch me. Stop Jaxson. I don’t wanna talk to you. Stop. Let go of me.”

She then emerges from the room, crying. Seconds later, we hear loud banging on the door while Jamora and Jaxson’s cousin ask the seven-footer to “Stop!” Meanwhile, Jaxson also addresses Sofia as a “B—h” and says “The f— is wrong with you?”

Continued footage from the driveway shows her telling the Lakers star, “I’m not going to let you hit me anymore. What do I look like, a punching bag?” threatening to call the cops if he does not leave. Then, Jaxson shoves Jamora out of his way and turns back to spit in her direction before heading back into the house, where he flips over several pieces of her furniture.

Ultimately, the LAPD responded to the scene in Woodland Hills, California, after a domestic disturbance call, and they arrested Jaxson Hayes after he also got into a scuffle with one of the officers.

After pleading no contest to the multiple charges, Hayes was sentenced to 3 years probation, 450 hours of community service, and weekly domestic violence classes. Meanwhile, the NBA took no action against its player. However, the newly surfaced footage has forced them to take another look into the matter as league spokesman Mike Bass said, “As a result of the media report and video posted this morning, we are reopening our investigation.” This could lead to much stricter action against Hayes.

Jaxson Hayes’ spokesperson assures ‘cooperation’ with league office

Well, the lawsuit Jamora filed against Hayes for assault and false imprisonment after the incident is still ongoing. Apart from this resurfaced video, there was also footage of the police body cam which showed the hooper scuffling with officers and being hit twice with an electronic stun gun after he refused to leave the house.

All these factors might not really work in Hayes’ favor in the league’s reopened investigation. But the Lakers star’s spokesperson has assured complete cooperation, “There has already been an extensive investigation that we cooperated with the league on, and as that investigation reopens, we will continue to do so.”

Meanwhile, Sofia Jamora’s spokesperson said, “We understand that the NBA has a no-tolerance policy against domestic violence, and therefore the victim welcomes any further investigation into Hayes’ actions and will cooperate with said investigation.”

As of now, Jaxson Hayes is signed with the Lakers on a two-year $4.6 million deal. And a Lakers’ spokesperson has also assured, “We are cooperating with the league,” ESPN reports.

This was Rob Pelinka’s stance when he had signed the player for the Lakers. The GM told the media, “I think the most important thing is we take those things very seriously and do a full vetting process.”

Rob Pelinka continued, “Jaxson has been very sincere [with] his apologies around handling that and has moved beyond it to where he’s had a year or two in the NBA playing after it. It was something that we felt like he owned, took responsibility for it, and is going to be a better person on the other side of it.”
