Is the NBA failing its players by allowing chaotic, non-private locker room environments?

The NBA locker rooms are a subject of controversies, non-privacy, and hygiene issues. Multiple players have complained about the lack of proper facilities in NBA locker rooms. Unlike other sports where locker room access is denied, like soccer dressing rooms in Europe, the changing rooms in the NBA remain open like a park. Anyone can come and go and it caused a lot of issues. Recently, Ben Simmons got into an altercation with a fan after the supporter mentioned, “You’re trash.” The incident left Draymond Green dumbstruck while recalling an incident with Kevin Durant that shocked him.

Simmons’ teammate Dennis Schroder confronted the fan leading to a war of words. We know Ben Simmons gets trash-talked and abused wherever he goes. But c’mon guys. He is a human being like the rest of us. Green pointed out the various issues related to non-privacy inside the locker rooms with Baron Davis in his podcast, The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis.

He detailed, “An NBA locker room is the most non-private place in the building. Like, there’s no privacy. You’re getting dressed. There’s people in the locker room,” mentioned a visibly furious Draymond Green. “You’re doing media and you’re getting prepped before the game, and then there’s people in the locker room. As soon as the coaches break the huddle after the game, there’s people in the locker room. It has to be the most insane, non-sanity or however, you want to f—ing frame it, place in an NBA locker room, I mean in the NBA arena.”

Fans want to see what happens inside the minds of NBA players before a game, so several documentaries show a game-night perspective from the locker rooms. With cameras flashing past the players, it sometimes becomes uncomfortable. He detailed another incident with him and Kevin Durant in Utah.

Green continued, “We were having a conversation against each other and you eavesdrop on our conversation and then go tweet it? But you always like talk about the protection of players. There is none. It’s crazy.” Simply ridiculous, one might say!

Draymond Green explains the messy state of NBA arenas!

Another issue is fan interactions. Remember the Malice at the Palace between the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons? A fan threw a glass at Ron Artest, leading to a melee where people were punched and stomped all over the arena. It’s something we have never witnessed before. Green is calling for a change as he detailed the conditions at the KIA Center in Orlando.

“In Orlando, you walk to the locker room and they have this guard rail up and you’re walking right next to a bunch of fans, which number 1 is ridiculous. They allow fans to line up right there when you’re going in the locker room. When you coming out, people standing there, screaming, trying to get autographed,” mentioned Green.

He has a point. We need safer locker rooms for the NBA players. It’s a place where they discuss strategies and have their private moments. We don’t like it if someone barges into our house when we have a private conversation, don’t we?
