The FIBA World Cup is about to be done with the preliminary rounds. This has been an incredible tournament so far and on the way, we have seen some expected results. The USA has been dominant as expected and teams like Canada have lived up to expectations. This holds true for Germany too, which has looked in brilliant touch. They are set to make a deep Playoff run unless they draw some heavyweight.

As they go on to make history, LeBron James’ ex-teammate has to be over the moon.

A friend of LeBron James gets it done yet again

Germany hammered Finland 101:75 to finish Group E unbeaten. In the first quarter, Finland took a 22-19 lead, but from there, the Germans turned it on.

They outscored the Finnish men by 11 points in the second quarter, by 13 in the third, and by five points in the deciding quarter. For Finland, 2023 NBA MIP Lauri Markkanen had a terrible game, shooting 0% from the three-point line on six attempts and scoring 12 points on below 30% shooting overall.

The team put on a passing galore and had an incredible 29 assists, shooting 57.4% from the field. They forced 18 turnovers and committed just nine. In terms of scoring, Isaac Bonga and Dennis Schröder both had 15 points to lead the team.

LeBron James’ former Lakers teammate Schröder also had four assists and two steals.

This was the first time that the team finished the preliminary round without losing a single game. Apart from the close 85:83 triumph against the Australians, the rest of the two wins were lop-sided.

In the second round, Germany is in Group K alongside Australia. They won’t play Australia again and will play the top two teams from the first round’s Group F. If they finish in the top two again, they will enter the Quarter-Finals to kick off the Knockout phase.

With their well-balanced attack, things look promising for Schröder and co. Will they make it all the way?

Germany’s chances

In Group F, one of the top two teams is likely to be Slovenia and the other will be between Cape Verde and Georgia. Doncic leads Slovenia, and a match-up against the all-around superstar is always tricky. However, Dennis Schröder has been in impeccable touch, averaging almost 20 points and over 5 assists. Orlando Magic big man, Moritz Wagner, has put up impressive performances too.
