Is Dennis Schroder right to embrace his 'tainted' NBA identity and fire back at KD?

Kevin Durant had a sublime tour to Paris, winning his fourth gold medal for Team USA. The superstar rocked the hardwood with his awe-inspiring fadeaway and shot-making throughout the tournament. On the other hand, he also had an impressive social media game, as usual, giving fitting replies to his haters. This time, along with the hater, KD added the German captain, Dennis Schroder to the list, trolling him for a misunderstood comment. Nevertheless, now, Schroder has taken a shot at Durant, but at the cost of his own identity.

It all began when Schroder attempted to make a comparison of European and American basketball after the loss in the bronze medal game against the Serbian side. The German guard added, European basketball is no entertainment, it’s straight IQ basketball, straight coaching… Serbia, Greece, Spain, France, Germany, so many teams out there who know how to play, is athletic, and I think there’s a lot of people from Europe in the NBA who make some noise.”

Notably, it seemed like Schroder wasn’t trying to offend the NBA stars, as he said, “I got to be careful,” before commenting. Nevertheless, it wasn’t received well by Kevin Durant as he took a dig at him, writing, “ENTERTAINMENT & IQ,” on his X post after winning the gold. Responding to the attack, Schroder said, “For me, that’s just being weak,” in a stream.

However, he didn’t stop there. Schroder further went on to clarify his old statement but at the cost of lowering his identity. He added, That type of a star and you have to say something to a person like me, who not even meant it to be negative. It’s just what I see from both sides.” Notably, Schroder has played 11 in the league, representing 7 franchises, and has never played an All-Star. Meanwhile, he got himself a spot in the Paris Olympics All-Star five alongside Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Victor Wembanyama, and Nikola Jokic.

Will Kevin Durant to Dennis Schroder once again?

Well, every loyal KD fan would know, that the Slim Reaper wouldn’t hesitate before responding to a hater. However, in this case, Schroder has gone out of the way to claim that he didn’t mean to disrespect the USA players. But, at the same time, he referred to KD as “weak”.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Dennis Schroder right to embrace his 'tainted' NBA identity and fire back at KD?

Have an interesting take?

Speaking of KD’s X post, Schroder continued, “So I didn’t appreciate it. I don’t care but at the end of the day, that tweet that he posted was because of me, and for me, it was never no negative stuff. I respect all those guys, all those GOATs. But to say that tells me how weak he is as a person. It is what it is, not everybody is strong”

Schroder, who is currently playing for the Brooklyn Nets, will have a lot of eyeballs on him in the upcoming season. Already, he attracted a wave of haters after knocking out the US side in the 2023 FIBA WC semifinals. Now that, he has a rift with Kevin Durant, fans will have an exciting match-up when the Phoenix Suns take on the Nets.
