As the NBA offseason comes closer, the Los Angeles Lakers are back on their star-hunting ways. Usually, post-season failures catalyze these roster changes, and the Lakers’ first-round exit marks a clear motive. Among several options, DeMar DeRozan is a prominent option with close links to LA. The six-time All-Star, was born and bred in Compton, made a name for himself in the Compton Highschool followed by a successful stint at the USC Trojans.

Hence, his being associated with the Lakers is not a new trend. However, DeRozan’s recent cryptic post on X is turning speculation into reality. “I’m controlling these emotions Room full of people, I’m alone, feel like I’m drowning in the ocean,” wrote the 34-year-old.

DeRozan’s four seasons in the Chicago Bulls have only resulted in one trip to the playoffs once. Despite getting a two-All star selections and an All-NBA nod, continuing with the Bulls isn’t a great move for him. Instead, going to where his effective mid-range shooting provides the team with a constant offensive release is the way to go. This season marks the end of the end of the three-year, $81.9 million deal DeMar signed with the Bulls back in 2021.

So, as a free agent, LA might not be such a bad place for him to be after all! Especially considering the Fans’ requesting him to come to the Lakers.

Even a recent Bleacher Report article suggests that DeRozan is on the wrong team. The piece suggests, that “DeRozan isn’t a perfect fit in any system, however. He’s a ball-dominant wing who takes a ton of mid-range shots and isn’t a high-level defender. DeRozan would be an ideal sixth man at some point with his instant offense.” The Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers are noted as the top choice for him.

So, do you think he will actually have homecoming in LA satisfying Laker Nation? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
