The Chicago Bulls aren’t getting any better. That seems to be the common understanding even amongst the top brass of the organization. Likewise, keeping their stars intact is going to be tough. One of them is already assessing the market as a free agent. After completing his three-year contract, DeMar DeRozan’s name has been floated around the free agency market. Still a player with immense appeal, Deebo is a wanted man without a doubt.
Even at 34, DeRozan’s production is hard to come around in the NBA. Owing to this fact, several teams have looked over his situation. Previously, the Lakers seemed front runners. However, since they re-signed LeBron James, the likelihood of DeRozan going home has decreased. But there are more potential suitors including the Miami Heat. Popular rapper Ma$e, however, doesn’t think the prospects of DeRozan to Heat make sense.
“I think it’ll just be another three though. They already got enough threes… It’s like you are loading up the same position. They need fours. They need another type of player,” he told his co-hosts of It Is What It Is.

When asked about the ideal scenario for Deebo, he believes there are two. “If DeMar DeRozan can get to Milwaukee, that will be the best situation. Or if Bruce Brown can make his way back to Denver that will be the best situation. Anybody get to Denver, it’s the best situation,” Ma$e claimed while agreeing with Cam’ron’s suggestion for DeRozan.
The Nuggets have an active payroll of $168 million, placing them below the first apron. That provides them the opportunity to pursue a sign-and-trade for DeMar DeRozan. However, the franchise let Kentavious Caldwell-Pope walk without offering close to Magic’s three-year $66 million deal. It seems the front office wants to stay below the second apron, hence pursuing DeRozan could be out of the question. They also have Jamal Murray’s extension pending on their agenda.
The Bucks on the other hand are barred due to their increasingly high payroll. Their top three earners make up $130 million of the active $187 million payroll that the organization boasts. Surpassing the second apron figure prevents them from doing any sign-and-trade for a player of higher value. There is a chance that they offer Brook Lopez, who has been rumored for a Milwaukee exit in exchange for DeMar DeRozan. However, it wouldn’t make sense for the Bulls who have Nikola Vucevic at the five, or the Bucks who will expect a defensive anchor in exchange for Lopez.
In the current market, it is incredibly tough for DeRozan to find a contending team to join. But not all hope is lost.

DeMar DeRozan could be a King
In terms of his preference, DeMar DeRozan is seeking a deal with the Miami Heat. Unfortunately, South Beach doesn’t have the appropriate funds to meet his expectations (unless they trade for Jimmy Butler). While these talks were ongoing, a Western Conference team pitched their plan for the Los Angeles native.
The Sacramento Kings reportedly offered the Bulls a sign-and-trade opportunity for DeRozan over the past few weeks. The Western Conference side went from bottom dwellers to a competitive side with the likes of De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. They have an immense depth of talent, from which they were willing to offer Harrison Barnes and Kevin Huerter for the charismatic scorer.
