On 4th February, 2004, Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook. On March 21, 2006, Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, and Biz Stone created Twitter, now ‘X’. But, before all of this, in the 2003 NBA draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected LeBron James. And you know what, he came before social media existed.

With LeBron James taking a hiatus from social media via his X post, “And with that said I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care ✌🏾👑,” he took a stand for himself. He did what he wanted to do. And most fans are curious about his reasoning behind it. Well, don’t wait further. The King has replied.

“I have some words of advice. If you’re a part of it and it bothers you, then you probably just delete it off your phone. That would be if it bothers you,” LeBron James said, addressing the media with his decision to quit social media. It’s a tricky subject these days with players getting affected by name-calling or criticisms from fans who know nothing about the game.

Ben Simmons, for example, had it challenging with people bantering him whenever he stepped foot on the court. Well, LBJ learned it way back.

“I came in the NBA before social media,” said James, who boasts 52.9 million followers on X and 159 million followers on Instagram. He is a marketing machine and created a brand to promote even his tequila brand, Lobos 1707 Tequila. Yet, he faced criticism for whatever he did on some days. He continued, “So, you can hear criticism, but it took four five people to finally get to you.”

“I think it comes with growth. I think it comes with understanding what matters and what doesn’t matter in your life. In your personal life. For me, it took time,” for LeBron to understand the whole social media game. He detailed the excitement of posting something with a “touch of your finger” became amusing, at the time it came out. Yet, later, most of them just couldn’t handle a famous term called ‘social media bullying.’

However, James understands how to manage emotions before a high-intensity game or all the doubts he faced in his career.

Since arriving in 2000, James put his mind and body into the game of basketball. He knew greatness came to his feet when he stepped foot in St. Vincent–St. Mary High School. Thus, you can’t pull a man like that down. Consequently, he had his fair share of moments where his fashion left a bitter taste in our mouths.

But as he said, “For me, I’ve learned how to laugh at the memes that come through. I learned, if someone’s trying to kill me and it’s in fashion, I laugh at that too. Because, it’s funny at times as well.”

Laugh it off sometimes. Following James’s suggestion, if social media is causing problems, delete it. Step outside the media world and cherish the smaller things in life. If, you can handle it, well and good. Enjoy it!
