The Los Angeles Lakers won the very first In-Season Tournament title, defeating the Indiana Pacers 123-109. LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers used the occasion to thank his teammate Cam Reddish, who was chastised after missing a game-defining jumper in the last moments of the game against the Miami Heat.

In an interview after securing this victory, James shared a piece of his mind as he praised his teammate, Reddish.

The NBA In-Season Tournament, also known as the NBA Cup, is a new addition to the National Basketball Association’s regular season, debuting in the 2023–24 season. In this tournament, the victorious team receives the NBA Cup, and each player gets $500,000. The Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James, wrote history as they became the first team to secure the NBA Cup.

In an interview with Chris Haynes, James said that he wanted Reddish to have this IST championship platform to showcase his skill set. He added, “People were writing him off. I’m so happy he got to experience this and perform. I believe in him.”

James’ words highlight the team’s unity and belief in each other as they overcome setbacks to achieve this sweet victory.

Notably, LeBron James became the first-ever In-Season Tournament MVP.

The 38-year-old, NBA legend, LeBron James is not looking to stop anywhere soon, as he adds another big achievement to his endless list of basketball achievements. Being one of the best leaders in the league, he led the Lakers to a flawless victory by averaging 26.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists while shooting 56.8% from the field and 60.6% on 3s. His exceptional skills and unstoppable talent, helped him become the first-ever In-Season Tournament MVP.

Notably, Anthony Davis also played a huge role in this victory as he dropped 41 points and secured 20 rebounds in the final match against the Pacers. Austin Reaves added 28 more points as they ended this match with a score of 123-109. Even though this particular game didn’t affect the teams’ regular season standings, there were still rewards at stake. As the season continues all eyes will be on James and his team to see if they can take home this year’s championship title.
