There’s nothing like sitting courtside for an NBA game, the atmosphere and the incredible athleticism on display almost seem to magnify the closer you are to the action. It’s not cheap though. An average courtside ticket will set you back a couple of thousand dollars. But what happens when fans take issue with those close to basketball stars, assuming they receive that privilege for free? Say a star like the Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox.
Well, that’s exactly the can of worms a Kings fan opened up after criticizing Fox’s wife. This happened after Fox pointed out some of the differences he’d seen at his new club, the San Antonio Spurs compared to his former club. “F— this guy, your wife was courtside for every game in Sacramento but yes the Kings aren’t accommodating to a player that isn’t a superstar,” wrote the fan on X.
This take is comical. Do yall think we got those tickets for free? We paid full price for those. https://t.co/KlDG0lSyrB

And this did not sit well at all with Fox’s wife, Recee Fox. She instantly clapped back at the fan, claiming that the tickets weren’t simply handed to her. “This take is comical. Do y’all think we got those tickets for free? We paid full price for those,” she said. While it’s impossible to verify the validity of either claim, it’s still an odd criticism of Fox.
So what did Fox say that sparked this backlash? Well, he did throw some shade on his former team. He said there are a lot of things that are different between the way the Spurs and the Kings operate. “It’s just very accommodating to the players, to the staff. Whoever’s in the organization is very accommodating,” said Fox. And simply saying this was enough to set off the aforementioned fan. Fox probably touched a nerve, huh?
We believe that the fan is wrong in this instance on several counts. Firstly, going after a player’s wife, as a fan, is never justified regardless of what they said. Second, it’s not like Fox outright blasted the Sacramento Kings for not being accommodating to him and his wife. All he did was point out how much more hospitable the culture at the Spurs felt to him. Moreover, it’s just sad to see how unappreciative the Kings’ community is towards Swipa. After all, he spent 8 years in Sacramento, consistently putting up great numbers for them.
What’s more, is that the only reason he left was the Kings’ inability to build a solid squad around him. Something that Fox claims is already present at his new club. So let’s find out what he said.
De’Aaron Fox reveals what moved him to join the San Antonio Spurs
It’s not easy moving franchises after spending nearly a decade with one. However, that’s the tough decision De’Aaron Fox made this year when he moved to the San Antonio Spurs. But it wasn’t solely the prospect of playing alongside the scintillating youngster, Victor Wembanyama.

During the same press conference where he made the comparison between his two clubs, Swipa told us exactly what led him to pick the Spurs as his destination. “A big reason that I wanted to come was I felt like they had obviously a young group of guys. But a young group of guys that had a lot of potential. That could do big things in this league,” revealed Fox.

But he didn’t stop there. He also praised Wemby for giving him the peace of mind to play freely, knowing he was at the rim. “At times you can gamble for steals, and if you don’t get it you still have another line of defense,” said Fox. Clearly, he’s a big fan of the 7-foot-3 youngster. It’s hard not to agree with De’Aaron. After all, wouldn’t you feel more secure if you played alongside an NBA player in a neighborhood pickup game?

But the Spurs lineup has some great youngsters apart from Wemby. Take Devin Vassell for example. He’s been on an upward trajectory since entering the fray in 2020. Last season, he averaged 19.5 points for the Spurs in 68 games. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Stephon Castle. The Spurs rookie is playing really well this season. He’s one of the top 5 scorers for the Spurs this season.
It’s evident that the Spurs have a roster that’s capable of winning the NBA title soon, if not now. And the addition of De’Aaron Fox has only bolstered their chances. We just hope the Spurs fans can appreciate Fox more than the Sacramento faithful. While Kings fans might not have appreciated Fox’s comments, his move to San Antonio was about more than just team culture. And judging by his words, and his wife’s clapback, he won’t be losing sleep over a few bitter Kings fans anytime soon.
