It has been a wild week in the NBA. Amid the shocking Luka Doncic and Jimmy Butler news, one trade might not be getting the attention it deserves. Yes, we are talking about De’Aaron Fox’s move to the Spurs, forming a lethal duo with Victor Wembanyama. But did you know that the deal almost didn’t happen because of De’Aaron’s wife, Recee?
Turns out, she was initially not too thrilled about moving to San Antonio, as Fox revealed, “Funny enough, my wife didn’t wanna come to Texas.” It’s surprising because Recee is no stranger to the state as she played at Texas Tech for two years. Well, Fox has spent his entire career in Sacramento and it’s understandable that his wife has gotten used to the California lifestyle.
However, Fox realized that the opportunity was too good to let go. “I thought it was perfect, fit wise on the team, and also just the way our life is going. I’m very happy.”

Of course, he is hopeful that Recee will come around eventually because surprisingly, that’s what happened with her parents as well, “It’s funny coz her dad told me that whenever they moved from California to Texas, her mom didn’t wanna do it either and it ended up being great and she loves it.”

Sure enough, joining the Spurs could be a career-defining move for De’Aaron as he now gets to share the court with the French sensation, Victor Wembanyama. Together, they have the potential to turn the San Antonio franchise into a dynasty once again. While the excitement to play with Wemby is expected, Fox is also hyped about teaming up with another young star—Stephon Castle!
In fact, the former Kings guard even had a private conversation with the 20-year-old rookie before the trade went through, “I was like, I want Steph here. Then I texted him. I told him ‘You’re a big reason why I wanted to come here.’ So, that’s the big thing about it being able to play with Vic, being able to play with Steph.”

Well, the Spurs drafted Castle fourth overall in last year’s draft and he has become a key part of their rotation, averaging 12.2 points and nearly four assists. So, it’s understandable why Fox is so hyped to run the floor with him. And the world got a glimpse of what they can do together during tonight’s Hawks clash.

Although there were murmurs about the Kings potentially trading Fox for quite some time, he only found out about the move to the Spurs at the last minute. “I was sitting in my hotel room playing War Zone. That’s when I found out. I got the call from Vivek, Monty West, Paul Johnson. Everybody ended up coming into my room and we talked about it,” Fox revealed.
But it does not matter how it happened, what’s important is that it happened.
De’Aaron Fox took complete advantage of the opportunity as he made his Spurs debut tonight against the Hawks. And he looked right at home, as he went off for 24 points and five rebounds. Moreover, his chemistry with Victor Wembanyama and Co. looked amazing as Fox dished out thirteen assists. Pretty impressive for first-time teammates!
