San Antonio Spurs starlet Victor Wembanyama has been the most hyped prospect ever since LeBron James joined the NBA straight out of high school in 2003. Naturally, there have been lots of questions on his skillset and all the hype. Following an underwhelming NBA Summer League debut, Wemby stepped up his performance in the next game. However, haters have not given him any respite.

Recently, 1993 NBA MVP Charles Barkley gave his thoughts on the #1 overall pick. Just days after Wembanyama made a controversial NBA claim, Chuck put all of those to rest.

He was drafted as the #1 overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2023 Draft. And in his second game only, he showed his capability by scoring 27 points.

While there is certainly a lot of excitement over his debut in the NBA, Charles Barkley issued a caution to NBA fans: “Well, I don’t wanna jump the gun, because I’ve never seen him play against NBA players. That little stuff they doing in the summer league and that league he played in France, it won’t be like the NBA. We’ve got grown men in the NBA, we don’t know how good the Spurs are going to be. He’s got a great coach, that’s the best thing he’s got.”

This came just days after Wembanyama made a controversial claim. The French superstar asserted that European leagues are more physical than the NBA. “I get fouled a lot, but not as much. Here players are just flying, out there it’s more on the ground, pushing on the ground, big box outs,” said Wemby, when asked about the difference between Europe and the NBA.

The French Baller is not the first European basketball star to make such a comment. Earlier Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic asserted that it is easier to score in the NBA.

Wembanyama’s Summer League is officially over

There were a lot of expectations on Wembanyama ever since he was drafted as the #1 overall pick last month. He began his campaign with an underwhelming debut against the Charlotte Hornets.

Taking on the Portland Trail Blazers, Wemby scored 27 points and 12 rebounds. While many fans thought they would really see the best of Wemby in the next games, the Spurs pulled him out of the Summer League. Coach Pop confirmed that Wemby will not be participating in the Summer League as they had seen enough of him.
