Zhuri stepping up for LeBron—Is she the real MVP of the James family?

No one can say Zhuri, the 9-year-old daughter of NBA star LeBron James, doesn’t possess the same competitive spirit as her father! At a small age, the basketball legend’s only daughter has already taken to sports, excelling in volleyball, while her two elder brothers have taken to basketball like their father. However, to help her father, she is quite open to switching her field.

LeBron James discussed his youngest during a segment of ‘The Shop’ released yesterday. Zhuri’s name first came to light after the Lakers lead scorer started discussing how, even after 20 years in the NBA, he still gets nervous during regular season games. While a major reason for this is the fact that he has to perform in front of a 20,000+ crowd in an arena, another reason is that Zhuri may have chosen to stay up till late during a random game night to watch her father in action.

After all, she did it before and had some choice words to use once she encountered her father after a game. “I didn’t came home before, and Zhuri was like ‘Dad, you know I can help you out, right?” said the 39-year-old, as his co-hosts let out a laugh. “I just need a uniform Dad, and I can help y’all for sure.”

It is no secret that LeBron James and the Lakers haven’t had the best of luck recently. After winning their last NBA championship back in 2020, the franchise hasn’t even entered the NBA Finals since then. They were barely able to make it to the playoffs last season after securing a mid-seed and then securing a win in the play-in series. However, it didn’t help much as the Lakers were eliminated in the first round by the defending champions Denver Nuggets. This might have prompted Zhuri to think about taking to the NBA court herself.

While LeBron could not have his daughter on the court with him, he will have one of his children by his side next season. After being taken by the Lakers as the 55th overall pick in the recent draft, LeBron’s eldest, Bronny James, is set to make his regular-season debut in the next few months. His recent run in the NBA Summer League did not kick off to a good start. Not only did the player score only 4 points in his first game, he was sidelined for the next one after developing an injury. He didn’t perform any better during the next matchup against the Miami Heat either, scoring only 3 points. However, as LeBron James highlighted in a statement, it is still early days, and the summer league games should not be considered as a threshold for how far Bronny can take his performance level.

Bronny’s sibling Bryce, who is two years younger than him, is currently making waves as a high-school basketball prodigy, however, by the time he would potentially arrive in the NBA, LeBron’s “going to be 42, bro,” as revealed by Bryce himself.

Lebron, in the meantime, is focused on the upcoming Olympics and Zhuri is cheering him on.

Have an interesting take?

Taking a break from his NBA dilemma, LeBron James is preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics. With two weeks remaining until the commencement of the main tournament, the exhibition games recently began with Team USA going off against Canada. Both Zhuri and her mother, Savannah James, were present to cheer on the lead forward. Once the game was in Team USA’s bag, mother and daughter celebrated by vibing to a song that made heads turn.

Onlookers at the T-Mobile Arena captured Zhuri singing along to the lyrics of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ track. The 9-year-old even went on to pull out some moves before her father came in for a quick word. It’s a shame that LeBron didn’t join in and vibe to the tune as well. After all, he has done it before.

It’s no secret that ‘Not Like Us’ was released by Kendrick Lamar as a diss track to include in his long-running feud with fellow rapper Drake. While LeBron James has shared a long-running friendship with Drake, it still hasn’t stopped him from heading out to Lamar’s concerts with his fellow NBA players and vibe to his tracks. The same reasoning also extends to Zhuri and Savannah.

But was it just a coincidence that a diss track towards the Canadian rapper was played just as his team lost? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
