The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a crushing defeat against the Sacramento Kings in today’s matchup. LA hasn’t had a good tournament so far but was picking up the pace recently. Today’s matchup would have helped them inch closer to a playoff berth. However, head coach Darvin Ham couldn’t help his team maintain its rhythm, which resulted in a 120-130 home turf loss.
The game started off well for the Lakers. LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who were initially listed on the team’s injury report made the fans cheer when they stepped on the court. Despite not missing any stars from their lineup, the Lakers couldn’t contain the Kings, especially De’Aaron Fox, who dropped a massive 44 points on LA. When the time came to provide answers, Darvin Ham took charge during the post-game press conference.
Darvin Ham drew a lot of criticism during the Q&A session because of his initial refusal to take any accountability for the loss. He said, “A lot of times it comes down to just playing harder”. The criticism, however, grew manifolds when he was asked about his game plan for the night, especially around the aces of Sacramento. According to a tweet on X, Ham stated, “We came out with a plan to force Fox to his right hand and force Malik to his left hand.”

This coach is a joke.

The comment was enough to trigger Lakers fans who are supposedly very dissatisfied with the performance of Darvin Ham this season. The Lakers have only won 34 out of 64 games this season and have been the bottom feeders this season despite winning a championship just four years ago.
Moreover, the team had also reached the Western Conference finals last year, only to suffer a 4-0 blowout. Thus, a strategy like this when the Lakers should be increasing their depth was sure to baffle fans. In fact, they stormed the comments section of the tweet to give the head coach a piece of their mind.

When Darvin Ham got hammered by the Laker Nation
Darvin Ham received severe backlash due to his amateur advice to a professional NBA team. One of the fans even asked the Los Angeles Lakers management to fire him from his position.
The worst HC in the is Darvin Ham

Fans also pointed out that while the strategy was a joke in itself, De’Aaron Fox ridiculed the Lakers and Darvin Ham by scoring from his left.
All of Fox buckets came going left so that clearly didn’t work

Fans also hit Darvin Ham for acting like a sitting duck during the game and not modifying a failing strategy.
And when it was clearly not working you did what? Hello? Anything? Or do you have to wait until the game is over to consider any changes?

An angry fan also noted that the coach should have called a timeout and changed the game plan before it was too late. They also pointed out that the commentators were also wondering why Darvin Ham wasn’t doing that.
That was infuriating hearing that, why didn’t he call timeout say stay the game plan. James Worthy and Horry was frustrated about that not happening.

An annoyed and frustrated fan also mentioned that he has seen better planning and strategies at lower leagues and was disappointed to see an NBA coach say this.
I’ve seen better game plans at 10u YMCA games…
