The Philadelphia 76ers will be facing the Lakers tonight. LA is just coming off a brilliant game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the performance of Anthony Davis has left everyone simply thrilled. Philly, on the other hand, had managed to break their 2-game losing streak, while simultaneously breaking OKC’s 6-game winning streak.

The pairing of these two will be quite the match. Not simply because of where the two teams stand. But also because of the 76er’s Paul Reed’s comments pre-game.

Reed is determined to get into the head of Anthony Davis

The most obvious answer would be, ‘as if’. This is not Davis’ first rodeo, so he knows how things work around the NBA. Not only does it look like AD could be the least bothered, but Coach Ham has also come forward with a simple answer to the 76ers’ forward for calling him a big “flopper”. “Best of luck, Paul.”

For someone who plays around 13 minutes off the bench, Paul Reed has proved himself to be an asset for the Sixers. But he does have a knack for getting into foul trouble. With a record of 2.0 fouls per game, we can see why he would want to be careful around Davis.

AD’s free throw attempts per game stand at 5.9, while the made shots are at 5.1, per game. According to StatMuse, he is in the 16th position for free throws made, sharing it with Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell.

Paul’s “flopper” comment might just bite him back

Whether Paul was looking to mess with AD’s head or fuel his fire for tonight, it would be wise for the former G League ROTY to look sharp. Davis has had trouble getting his game on since the start of the season. But his last battle with the Cavaliers reminds us why the Lakers have the dominant hand in the NBA.

The duo of LeBron-Davis has been a nightmare for the opposition ever since they decided to join forces. But recently, it’s been James who seems to be carrying the majority of team weight. So seeing AD take control of the last game with a double-double, scoring 23 of his 32 points in the second half alone, was a welcome sight for Laker nation.

If he plays with the same vigor tonight, Reed is going to have a problem on his hands. It is true that his defense is pretty good. But he plays for a minimal time and off the bench. And with “flopper” Davis’ penchant to sell a call when he needs to, Paul Reed might just get a handful of AD.
