The FIBA World Cup is all said and done. And the results are in the history books now, with Germany being crowned as the world champions. Apart from Team USA’s loss to Canada for the bronze medal, Germany managed to bring the first FIBA title in the history of their country. And amid all the ‘world champions’ drama, this German player managed to take a subtle jab after winning it all.

Dennis Schroder and the rest of the squad toom down Serbia to win the title. And this crowned them the champions of the world. With bragging rights to go with the title, Schroder’s teammate certainly did not want to create more fuzz as he managed to dodge the bait.

The whole debate about NBA champions not being world champions was sparked by none other than track star, Noah Lyles. Since then, Lyles has been trolled and targeted by the NBA community along with NBA players and analysts as well.

But since Team USA not only lost the chance to play for gold but also missed out on the bronze medal, Lyles must be basking in the glory of how his statement turned out to be true.

The statement managed to create quite a buzz in the NBA world. So it wasn’t a surprise when Mortiz Wagner decided not to bite on the controversial world champion remark bait.

After their win against Serbia, Mortiz Wanger and the rest of Team Germany were being interviewed by reporters. That is when one reporter asked how it felt being the world champion. To that, Wagner replied, “Day I say world champion? Dare I say it.”

Wagner wanted to no part of all the drama that had ensued due to this debate and wisely avoided giving a controversial answer.

A well-deserved win for Germany

Team Germany beat Team Serbia with a final score of 83-77. The German team was led by none other than Dennis Schroder who scored 28 points in the championship game, being named the MVP as well.
