D'Angelo Russell playing for Lithuania—romantic gesture or career strategy? What's your take?

Well, D’Angelo Russell isn’t an exception in this case and neither is LeBron James. For, James, the experience of being a dad has been a long journey, but for D’Lo things are still new. However, there is no doubt that both the Lakers are pros in their daddy duties. But, what happens when playtime gets an interesting interruption?

The 259-year-old French cognac brand Hennessy recently collaborated with LeBron James. Together they designed and created a limited edition as a tribute to greatness. And well, it looks like one of the special packages reached D’Angelo Russell’s home. The point guard shared the updates on his Instagram Story that featured his 2-year-old son Riley.

Well, the toddler was busy playing his games. Meanwhile, D’Lo unveiled the covers to show the fancy package containing a stunning bottle, a golden shaker, and some chalices. In his hand, he held a gift card, with a message from the collaborators. However, it was Riley who took center stage by giving a shoutout to LeBron. “Shoutout to LeBron,” D’Angelo Russell said. And right beside him, the little boy repeated his dad. This caught the 28-year-old’s attention and he wanted his boy to repeat himself.

“Shoutout to LeBron,” little Riley said in a typical toddler voice.

What a cute moment! Just to make sure, he heard his son correctly, Russell, asked Riley, “Shoutout to LeBron?” and the baby turned to the camera to say, “Yes.” This has to be one of the cutest things you’ll see on the internet today. Well, amidst all the criticisms and an alleged interest in playing for Lithuania in the 2028 Summer Olympics, this moment of fatherhood will surely bring some spells of love for the Lakers guard.

Let’s get one thing clear: D’Angelo Russell has absolutely no Lithuanian ancestry. However, the 28-year-old wants to play for the country in the 2028 Summer Olympics. Now, you have all the right to wonder why. So, recently, D’Lo shared his interest in joining the Lithuanian National team and the reason behind is quite simple. It’s because of his girlfriend Laura Ivaniukas. She is a native of the country and could help D’Angelo Russell get his citizenship.

Moreover, Ivaniukas is the mother of D’Lo’s two kids, Riley and Mila-Rose. And, the 28-year-old’s eagerness to play for the country has been relayed to the respective authorities. “The President’s institution is aware of the player and his connection to Lithuania, but formal citizenship procedures haven’t been started yet,” Frederiks Janson, an advisor to President Gitnas Nauseda, said. Lithuania has always had local players on its international roster. They have never included a foreign-born player. Therefore, President Nauseda might consider changing this tradition.
