The three-point line is an unforgiving boundary for most. But what if there were no limits? That’s the reality for Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard, two sharpshooters who redefined the very essence of shooting. It was only fitting that the two goliaths faced off on countless occasions, wielding their sharpshooting skills. Yet, their hunger and vigor to compete and overrule stems from one common belief. It’s a belief in Christ.

On the podcast Raising Fame, Damian Lillard’s mother, Gina Johnson joined Sonya Curry to share the childhood stories of the former Trail Blazers guard. Dame D.O.L.L.A. grew up playing football. However, due to his size, his peers undermined him. Little did they know, that if others subjected him to limitations, it fueled him to prove them wrong. And it was because of his strong belief in Philippians 4:13 verse of the Bible.

“I think that’s kind of the tip that Damian has on his shoulders now, because if you tell him he can’t do it, he has that go for it like no, I can and I’m going to show you that I can. That was kind of the beginning of his chip of ‘Don’t tell me I can’t do it because whatever you say I can’t do, I can’. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. That’s his little saying,” Johnson told Sonya.

Coincidentally, his direct shooting rival, Stephen Curry too seems to have an identical mantra. “He has the same one as Stephen,” Sonya Curry admitted during the podcast. Curry’s religious devotion has been extensively studied. Even his celebration pointing to the skies is a testament to Christ. It’s a nod he came up with alongside his mother.

Charged by that energy, the Chef walked through every challenging phase. Even when he was overlooked, his trust in the process never wavered. From Davidson College to the NBA, he played with a chip on his shoulder, just like Dolla. Now, both of them are the most deadly exploiters of basketball’s most effective weapon.

Stephen Curry takes his belief everywhere

As a professional basketball player, Curry is the perfect example of a tough-minded individual. He has been through every walk of life, from being at the very bottom to turning into the franchise’s greatest player. Through it all, he has his family, and the Phillippians 4:13 verse with him everywhere.

During games, several NBA players have traditions to write on their sneakers. LeBron James likes to pay homage to his hometown and family. Curry though diligently ensures to inscribe 4:13 on his sneakers regularly before he takes the court. Harnessing those beliefs helps him pull off some of the most audacious moves and do it with unbreakable confidence.

Furthermore, he also has a (><) tattoo on his bicep, symbolizing the Bible verse John 3:30. His wife Ayesha Curry also has the same tattoo. They both got in inked together in November 2014 and have governed their life and family with this verse guiding them.

Using that strong belief, Curry has become an illuminating role model in the realm of basketball.
