A player being out of form or facing a significant crunch in certain aspects of his game is pretty common in the NBA. Well, the Los Angeles Lakers‘ small forward and shooting guard Dalton Knecht is currently amidst one of the biggest slumps in his career so far. Knecht’s shooting game has taken a hit recently. He has just managed to basket 12 of his last 63 three-point attempts. This drop in form has urged the 23-year-old to make a very specific career choice, keeping in mind what fate one of his teammates recently faced.
The managing editor of the Lakers Nation, Daniel Starkand, recently shared Knecht’s response when asked about his potential participation in the upcoming Rising Stars game. As per Daniel, the Lakers’ player stated, “Nah, I haven’t really thought about it, but I’m pretty sure now I will.”
Well, this response from the point guard doesn’t come as a surprise to the fans, especially after the recent snub of his teammate Quincy Olivari by the Lakers’ General Manager Rob Pelinka. The Lakers have waived Olivari on January 16. Olivari didn’t play much for the Lakers and one can feel that a lack of game time contributed heavily to him being facing such a fate.

I asked Dalton Knecht after practice today if he’s thought about potentially playing in the Rising Stars game and he had a funny response:

Now, the essence from the statement of Dalton Knecht inferred is that, he himself needs as much as game time to gain his lost form back. Even though he admits he didn’t think about the Rising Stars game earlier, capitulates on the fact that he is now thinking about it. It looks like Knecht realizes that he needs to tie his shoes and deliver substantial performances in the ongoing season, to make a case for himself. Otherwise, a similar outcome as of Olivari might loom over.
Dalton Knecht delivers a subdued performance in Lakers win over Miami Heat
Los Angeles Lakers managed to win their recent home fixture against the Miami Heat by a scoreline of 117-108. However, Dalton Knecht failed to land a major impact on the game. In his total 14-minute spell in the game, Knecht only managed to churn out a tally of 2 points. The 23-year-old had 1 assist and 2 rebounds to his name.

Following a recent similar trend, Knecht came off the bench as head coach JJ Redick looked to boost his offensive options. However, the small forward didn’t look that sharp and struggled to adapt to the pace of the game instantly. Knecht’s shooting slump continued as he failed to make even a single shooting chance from the field count out of his 4. He yielded 0 points from 4 shooting chances beyond the arc as well.
Knecht just managed to put away his couple of free-throw attempts. From the Lakers fans’ and management’s point of view, the point guard’s form must be concerning at this stage of his career. However, the upcoming matches might give him another shot to prove his worth to head coach JJ Redick.
