Thanks to their strong early-season stats, the Dallas Mavericks are currently the top team in the Southwest Division despite having lost four of their last six games. They have a special game coming up as they make a stop at the Footprint Center in Phoenix for a Christmas Day showdown. The Suns, on the other hand, are struggling to make an impact and they will go all in to pocket a win against the visiting team.

As both teams gear up for the much-anticipated game, the Suns’ HC Frank Vogel sets aside the rivalry and credits the Mavs’ guard Luka Doncic for his consistently incredible performances while also prepping to counter the big man on the court.

Coach Vogel has been more than impressed by their upcoming opponent. He did not hold back his praise, stating, “His ability to be his own man, read pick and roll coverages, beat double teams, his size and vision with his passing ability is extremely unique. His shot-making is extremely unique, you know? So he does it all at his own pace.” For Vogel, the Slovenian is “one of the best in the world.

While he lauds Doncic, the veteran coach is aware of the powerhouse they will be up against and ensures that they will, “make things as difficult for him as we can as you would with any great player.” Luka’s stats also attest to Coach Vogel’s praise. He is currently leading the Mavs’ charts in points (32.9), rebounds (8.6), assists (9.1), and steals (1.3). But what makes Luka so good?

How Luka works his magic

There is no one better at throwing opponents off balance than Luka and that is sheer talent. He becomes an even more deadly force on the floor because he knows how to capitalize on his strong physique; Luka is always in full control and does not rush, he plays at his own pace. Moreover, his game IQ is through the roof and he plays for the team.

Luka is a master at drawing double teams. He welcomes being doubled because it automatically creates a mismatch that benefits the offense. By doing this, Luka creates opportunities for his teammates through his finesse passing abilities. He plays at his own pace and knows when to take a shot.
