Before the Lakers’ showdown with the Phoenix Suns, Kevin Durant paid his respects to LeBron James. However, after the game, Christian Wood’s performance demanded a separate acknowledgement for rebounding efforts late in the game. Clearly, Darvin Ham recognizes Wood’s contributions.

During a post-game interview, Ham expressed his gratitude for Wood’s overall performance. When discussing James’ impact on the game, Ham naturally transitioned to laud Wood, stating, “The three of those guys, Bron, AD and Christian Wood – really dominated the defensive glass between the three of them. And we needed all of it.”

Earlier, during a session at Lakers’ media day, Wood emphasized his unwavering motivation to silence his critics. He acknowledged his awareness of people’s perceptions about him.

Wood’s contribution to Lakers’ victory

After trailing majority of the game, Lakers entered the fourth quarter facing a 12-point deficit. At the time, the Lakershow was struggling to secure rebounds and converting threes. As a result, Ham put Wood alongisde AD on the glass. The switch in defensive intensity paid out handsomely for the Lakers. They limit the Suns to just 11 points in the quarter, while snatching the first victory of the season.

Apart from his rebounding efforts alongiside AD, Wood was equally effecienct in his asssignment to guard Kevin Durant. KD scored 39 in the game, and was an offensive threat. However, Wood took it upon himself to disrupt KD’s offense, ultimately creating opportunities for the squad. He had three consecutive possessions where he prevented KD from scoring in the crunch time.
