After back-to-back road wins the Mavericks are set to face the New York Knicks at the Madison Square Garden tonight. This marks the rematch following the Mavericks’ 128-124 victory on January 12, as part of the NBA’s nine-game schedule. With a current record of 28-23, the Mavericks have experienced a 4-6 performance in their last 10 games. They secured consecutive road wins against the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets.

Kyrie Irving was back in action after a six-game absence due to a thumb sprain, and Luka Doncic gave his best as well. The superstar duo combined to contribute 71 points, 20 rebounds, and 14 assists in their 119-107 triumph against the Nets. However, the latest update on both Luka Doncic and Kai will be worrying for the Mavericks.

As per their injury reports, both Luka and Kyrie are listed as questionable. Despite dealing with a persistent ankle issue that has kept him on the injury report for weeks, Doncic now finds himself listed for a facial injury. Initially noted as a nasal contusion, it has been upgraded to a broken nose, with the injury occurring during the game against the 76ers when he took a hit to the face in the second quarter.https://twitter.com/GrantAfseth/status/1755441942807085159

However, it is important to note that both were also present in the injury report against the Nets but somehow played. However, if the tandem chooses to sit out, there is still hope for the Mavs, as the other two superstars Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson might both be out.

What happened to Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson?

The Knicks officially announced that their three-time All-Star experienced a dislocated right shoulder in the 125-109 victory against the Miami Heat on January 27. It was reported that he would undergo a re-evaluation in two to three weeks. The injury occurred when the Heat’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. took a charge late in the fourth quarter, forcing him to exit the game and head to the locker room.

As for Jalen Brunson, he suffered a right ankle injury during the game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday. At the 5:31-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Brunson attempted a forceful drive in the paint, resulting in an outward roll of his ankle. Given the current scenario, spectators who come to MSG expecting to see a clash between the titans might be disappointed. This will leave both team secondary stars to battle it out. Who do you think will be in that case? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
