For over 14 hours, there’s been just one conversation running circles around every NBA fan and media outlet, “the most shocking trade”— the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade. And expectations are, this will go on for a few more days or even weeks until anything of the same proportion happens. Jimmy Butler can take a back seat for now because when it comes to controversial comments, Nico Harrison just might have won the competition.
The Mavs finally came forward earlier today to seek penance for their actions deemed as sin by the Dallas faithful. But the GM wasn’t in the mood for that. He emphasized on how the incoming players in the trade fit the culture they’re trying to build. A keen eyed journalist raised the issue with that and asked if Doncic no longer fit into that culture. The answer was blunt to say the least. “I’m not gonna talk bad about any player. That’s not gonna do us or me any good. I just say there’s levels to it. There’s people that fit the culture and there’s people that come in and add to the culture. And I believe people that are coming in add to the culture,” Harrison claimed.
He also tried to defuse the disgruntled fan situation, claiming they’d forget Doncic as soon as they win. The move made by the franchise is to secure that win now and for the future, according to the GM. While the trade was opposed by a majority of Dallas Nation, who feel the Lakers gained the most in the exchange, there is a big problem that the Slovenian might be bringing with him to the Purple and Gold.

Luka Doncic’s trade could bring a big problem for Rob Pelinks and the Lakers
While digging into the reasons behind the Mavericks’ decision to part ways with their most valuable asset in recent years, several issues were revealed, Luka Doncic’s injuries, his supermax contract extension and the biggest concern of all, his weight gain. The 25-year-old was originally listed at 230 lbs, but that number quickly skyrocketed to 270 lbs, worrying the organization. But not anymore. Harrison pushed it to the Lakers GM Rob Pelinka now.

Even with the 40-pound increase, Luka Doncic can still easily rack up points on the scoreboard. It’s his defense and pace that become the problem, as the added weight slows him down and affects his overall performance.
However, there’s a solution to that as well. As Kendrick Perkins suggested on SportsCenter, “The great thing about it is that he’s going team up with a guy, LeBron James, who has known to be one of the best, if not the best, when it comes down to taking care of your body and being a professional.”

The former NBA star-turned-analyst further added, “I’m pretty sure Bron is going to take Luka under his wing and teach him how to be a true professional. And there one person that Luka Doncic will listen to is one of the greatest players to ever step foot on the basketball court.”

The 4-time champion can certainly motivate Doncic to achieve the fitness level needed, other than that, we can already speculate on the kind of magic the duo could create on the hardwood. Or will it ultimately be the Mavericks who come out as the real gainers? After all, Nico Harrison confidently said, “Time will tell if I’m right.”
