Stephen Curry was already a household name before entering the NBA. He broke the NCAA record for most threes in a season in his sophomore year. His fluid playing style lifted Davidson College to new heights. However, it was his performance in the 2008 NCAA tourney that turned heads. The 6’2 guard was on fire throughout the tournament and almost carried his program to the Semis with his record-breaking streak.
Following in his dad, Dell Curry’s footsteps, Stephen Curry has made his family proud ever since he was a teenager. His play brought the Curry legacy to a whole new level.

Dell Curry is one of the most prolific shooters in NBA history. While he didn’t become an All-Star level player like his son, he had built a solid reputation as a bench player. He won the Sixth Man of the Year Award in 1994 and played ten out of his sixteen seasons with the Charlotte Hornets. After his playing career, he took the job of an Assistant Coach for the Franchise.
However, he stepped down soon. The reason? To catch his son in action.
And oh Lord, did the move bring him joy! His child was lighting up everyone and averaged over 30 points during the 2008 NCAA tournament. A huge moment came when Davidson erased a 17-point deficit against Georgetown.
Upon seeing him perform at this level, Steph’s then 13-year-old sister, Sydell Curry remarked, “Daddy. Stephen made you famous again.”
His mom, Sonya was also mesmerized by him. When she saw him play first-hand, she couldn’t believe it.
His mother remarked, ”It hit me: He was truly that good. We’d heard so much about how he needed to be bigger. But then he made those shots and looked at me, and I thought, What in the world is going on?”
She had earned fame during the time too as the CBS cameraman kept panning to the cheering mom for fans to see.
The Role of Dell Curry in Steph’s Career
Basketball ran through the Golden State Warriors‘ no. 30’s veins even before he hit adolescence.
When he was just a kid, Dell Curry took the sharpshooter to his team’s pregame warm-ups. He and his brother had both seen the intensity of the NBA first-hand when they were young. Exposure at such a young age meant that they were getting the finest taste of basketball.
