Things had an unexpected halt during tonight’s Celtics vs Mavs game. The Dallas franchise headed into the game hoping to continue their momentum from Thursday’s win against OKC. However, the entire arena was left gasping when a young courtside fan was accidentally hit in the face with a pass from Kyrie Irving. As expected, Uncle Drew’s first instinct was to make sure the kid was okay.

The young boy was left with a bloody nose and the medical staff immediately rushed to check on him. With the game paused, even Kyrie walked up to his seat to check on him and courtside mics caught what he said, “You alright kid? Let me see you. You good bro. My bad bro.”

Apart from Ky, Derrick White and Jaylen Brown also stood there while the boy, named Asher, received treatment. Fortunately, the injury was not serious and his parents confirmed that he was doing well. However, Asher’s father had one request that the announcers revealed on Live TV, “Dad said all they want is to shoot some baskets after the game!”

Sure enough, it is highly likely that the kid will get autographed memorabilia or special team access from the Mavs to make up for the unfortunate troubles. However, the young Dallas fan’s misery did not end there!

While he was able to enjoy the rest of the game with the best view in the house, the Mavs ended up losing to the reigning champs. But the heartwarming interaction with Kyrie might make for a good memory. However, not all of Irving’s fan interactions are this wholesome!

Kyrie Irving once got into a heated back-and-forth with a Celtics fan

Kyrie Irving's courtside mishap—does this change your view on his sportsmanship?

Have an interesting take?

Irving is one of the most polarizing sports figures. Many love his straight-forward nature while others villainize him for it. Well, he was the ultimate villain in Boston during last year’s NBA Finals. And that led to him getting into a heated verbal altercation with one raging Celtics fan. Yes, the incident occurred in the opening game of the series as fans tried to get under Ky’s skin. With “Kyrie Sucks” chants echoing in the arena, Uncle Drew let his emotions get the better of him and got into an argument with a fan in the sixth row.

Celtics announcer Mike Gorman even detailed the incident, “Kyrie started looking at this guy and pointing at him and mouthing a variety of things at this guy. Next thing you know, the ball’s inbounds and Kyrie’s dealing with this guy. It went on for maybe two or three possessions… It was crazy. I’ve never really seen that.”

Well, the fan’s antics worked as the Dallas Mavericks lost the game. Kyrie Irving finished with just 12 points, on 6-for-19 shooting from the field while going 0-for-5 from deep. He admitted postgame that they weren’t fully prepared for the wild atmosphere, “We didn’t perform the way we would have wanted to tonight… Got to take some accountability for just the communication, and just going out there and getting used to the way that the kind of environment was going to be.”

Of course, fan interactions at games can go either way. We have today’s example and Malice at the Palace as two extremes… Fortunately, Kyrie’s incident with Asher turned out to be wholesome, despite an unfortunate start, unlike what happened with the Celtics fan. What are your thoughts?
