Late game; takeover in the mid-post; fade-away style. Does this remind you of Michael Jordan? Well, think again, because some may say it is Anthony Edwards. Their similarities cannot be ignored and Kevin Garnett was on the same page with fans when he once called Ant-Man “a young ’84 Jordan.” So are MJ and Edwards father and son? Of course not! But it doesn’t look like these speculations will stop anytime soon.

In an interesting turn of events, we have Juan Toscano-Anderson, who may have further fueled these speculations. He joined Sloane Knows! Podcast for a little tête-à-tête. And the 31-year-old has a story to tell. A Marquette alum, Juan knew Jordan‘s daughter, Jasmine, and here’s what he had to say about the Jordan-Edwards rumor.

“I knew Michael Jordan’s daughter. She was really good friends with a young lady who played basketball at Marquette and he doesn’t look like them. He looked like Michael a little bit but he don’t look like the rest of the kids.” the 2022 NBA champion confirmed. MJ, from his first marriage with Juanita Vanoy, has three children: Marcus Jordan, Jasmine M. Jordan, and Jeffrey Jordan.

However, Sloane- the 16-year-old podcaster- replied, “They could have had a different mom, probably, realistically, right?” to which Anderson nodded and said, “Right, that’s true!”

In all honesty, though, the 2x LNBP champion looked like he couldn’t completely take the similarities the pair shared off his mind. Neither can the NBA world at large. Anthony Edwards may not be the biological son of ‘His Airness,’ but the comparisons will no doubt continue. For example: Ant-Man had scored 40 points and then a career-high 43. But what did people say? For the fans, it was a Jordan-esque moment in Edwards’s career.

In 2021, remember how Anthony Edwards told Stephen Curry during the Warriors vs. Timberwolves game, “I’m ‘bout to go for 50”? Well, Ant-Man almost delivered it. He was just two points shy from completing his promise. Now, who else would say something like that? MJ.

However, the youngster’s life is well documented. Roger Caruth and Yvette Edwards were his biological parents. Since his father wasn’t around, his mother died from cancer when he was 14, and months later, his grandma also passed away from cancer, his older siblings, Antoine and Antionette, were his parental figures.

Anthony Edwards plays in another era; Does that make a difference?

Anthony Edwards has made it clear during multiple instances that he wants to have an identity of his own. “I want people to be like, ‘This Anthony Edwards kid, he’s got his own style. He’s maybe got a mix of Michael Jordan in him. But I’ve got a trey ball, I can shoot the three. So, I think that makes me a little different than Michael Jordan.”

It is super important to note the modernization and evolution of the game too. Michael Jordan wasn’t destructive from beyond the arc, but he was among the best of the best with his mid-range shooting. Because of that, he averaged 30.1 ppg. Notably, he only made 0.5 of his three-pointers on 1.7 attempts per game. The NBA legend shot only 32.7% from deep.

Given the rise of Stephen Curry and other pro shooters in the last 15 years, sinking 3Ps has very recently become a bigger part of the game. In comparison to Jordan, Anthony Edwards shot 35.7% 3Ps, which drastically increased to 40.0% in the 2024 postseason. The 22-year-old and his team couldn’t go all the way, but it still can be classified as a successful season for the young Twolves squad to reach the Conference Finals.

However, the pressure will continue to build on Ant-Man with those Michael Jordan comparisons. These talks started way back when the then-19-year-old joined LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Carmelo Anthony as the youngest to have a 40-point game. And it hasn’t stopped yet!

Many consider these comparisons severely unfair to either party. However, if it makes you feel better, the mighty MJ didn’t win his first title until he was 27 years old. Had Minnesota pulled off the miracle this season, conversations would’ve been a lot different, wouldn’t they?
