There’s less than a month left before the regular season ends. And teams will need their stars healthy to get a playoff spot or keep the one they have secure. The Milwaukee Bucks are no exception to this. However, the recent injury to Damian Lillard couldn’t have come at a worse time. Thankfully, Doc Rivers has given us an update on Dame’s injury. Well, kind of.
The Milwaukee Bucks’ point guard averages 24.9 points this season. He’s far and above the second-best player on the Bucks’ roster. So naturally, fans and the media are curious about the details of his injury. And more importantly, us fans can expect to see Dame back on the court.
A reporter asked Doc Rivers whether Dame was making any progress, and the Bucks head coach said, “No, obviously, because he’s not playing. So we’re just gonna keep monitoring it.” When asked if there was concern that Lillard may have torn his calf after Rivers confirmed they’d gotten imaging done, his reply was very nonchalant. “I don’t know yet. We’ll know more [soon],” said Doc. Not a very telling or optimistic update from the Bucks coach.

But there’s also some good news for you Milwaukee fans, Damian Lillard’s status, as of now, is day-to-day. And Doc Rivers confirmed it himself. Moreover, he’s also traveling with the team. So the injury must not be too bad, right? Still, he’s missed the last two games for the Bucks so let’s hope he’s back soon.
However, Dame isn’t the only player who’s injured and the Bucks have another massive issue they need to deal with. And that is their thin roster amid these injuries and what that means for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
What’s your perspective on:
Can the Bucks survive the playoffs with Giannis playing out of position and Dame's uncertain return?

Doc Rivers confirms that Giannis Antetokounmpo will need to play out of position
The Milwaukee Bucks’ centers Bobby Portis Jr. and Jericho Sims are both out. Bobby is still serving his 25-game suspension for the ingestion of a banned substance while Sims is recovering from a right thumb sprain. This leaves Brook Lopez as the only healthy center among Milwaukee’s ranks.

And this means Giannis Antetokounmpo may have to play center once again the same way he did before the trade deadline. So a reporter asked Doc Rivers how he planned to find a balance in getting through the last 11 games before the playoffs. After all, Giannis did reveal that he was miserable playing as a five. Here’s what Doc said.

“We don’t have a balance right now. Bottom line, if Brook’s off the floor we don’t have another five on our team…So, it just makes us a thin bench, a thin basketball team. And so Giannis will have to play five and we’re not opposed to putting Kuz (Kyle Kuzma) at the five, which is crazy but it is what it is,” said Doc Rivers.

Playing Kuzma at the five does sound crazy, yes. But Doc really doesn’t have the option of doing what’s sane. You see, Giannis himself is struggling with knee issues. With such little time before the postseason begins, an injury to him is the last thing the Bucks can afford. So it seems Kuz may have to play as a center while Giannis is out.
Things don’t look too good for Milwaukee right now. Dame’s injury could not have come at a worse time. And they’re shorthanded in a crucial position. Let’s just say things are about to get much worse before they get better for the Bucks!
