Has Golden State Warriors’ best rookie had enough of its head coach? Jonathan Kuminga, a 21-year-old forward for the Dubs was arguably the best player during his college years. On the floor, the 21-year-old forward has demonstrated his offensive ability, shooting efficiency, and versatility, making him a significant asset for the Warriors. However, the Warriors are unable to make use of the talented rookie in the way they should be.

Even during their recent loss against the Denver Nuggets, the rookie got to play only 19 minutes in the whole game. And during the last 18 minutes of the game, he was benched. So, after the game, Kuminga was fed up with the way Steve Kerr was using him and spoke about it.

Kuminga reportedly loses faith in Kerr

Jonathan Kuminga has been with the Golden State Warriors since 2021. He was even part of the championship-winning team in 2022 so he knows how the Dubs function. However, after getting benched during the crunchtime against the Denver Nuggets, he was not very pleased with the decision made by their head coach Steve Kerr.  According to Shams Charania an American sports reporter, Kuminga has lost faith in Steve Kerr.

His sources state that Kuminga no longer believes that the Head Coach of the Golden State Warriors will allow him to reach his full potential. Due to this, there is a cold war going on in the locker room of the Golden State Warriors. Despite his excellent effort of 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in only 19 minutes, they replaced Kuminga and the Warriors ultimately lost the game.

Kuminga’s dissatisfaction comes from what he believes is a lack of faith in his role on the squad. Despite his strong play, he has received inconsistent playing time, which has harmed his faith in Kerr’s coaching selections. Kerr, on the other hand, emphasized strategic reasons for not putting him back into the game, emphasizing the roster’s success in the 21-year-old forward’s absence. However, how has Kuminga performed this season, and does he deserve to be benched?

How has Kuminga performed this season?

Jonathan Kuminga’s performance with the Golden State Warriors this season has been beneficial and confusing. The 2021 lottery choice has shown promise as a dynamic player, but his playing time has changed greatly from game to game, raising doubts about his position on the team. Kuminga’s minutes distribution for the Warriors’ previous six games has been as follows: 23, 30, 27, 34, 19, and 21.

Despite putting up strong averages of 14.5 points and 5.1 rebounds, his status in the rotation is questionable due to a lack of consistent playing time. Finding the correct balance for Kuminga’s engagement becomes critical as the Warriors are going through a difficult season, especially given the team’s objectives and his potential to be a key player.
