After a nine-game hiatus, LA Clippers star player Kawhi Leonard recently returned to the main lineup. However, despite his presence, the team has faced tough opposition against the Dallas Mavericks. Despite securing a win in the first of the six games of the Playoff series, the Mavericks later upped their play and are currently led by 2-1. Knowing the stakes that await them, the availability of the Clippers’ highest average scorer during the upcoming game is a must. However, after considering a recent update, one can assume that his availability is out for the coming game.

Shams Charania has reported that Kawhi Leonard is out for Game 4. On the positive side, no other players from the main lineup have been listed on the report.

Kawhi Leonard fell prey to a right knee inflammation back in March during a clash against the Charlotte Hornets. An MRI conducted in the aftermath of the incident showed that there wasn’t anything that would “cause the Clippers significant concern”. Despite this, Ty Lue later revealed that a decision was made for the player to “miss a couple games” and for the rest of the roster “to be ready to step up as he goes through his rehab process.” The decision bore fruition, as Leonard has now managed to make himself available for the playoffs. But the same will not continue for the upcoming games.

Leonard’s absence may have an impact on the Clippers’ offensive play during Game 4. Fortunately for them, however, they will be entering the matchup possessing a significant advantage. According to the Dallas Mavericks’ Injury report, star player and lead scorer Luka Doncic has also been listed as ‘Questionable’. His name has popped up on the report after having an unfortunate collision with Ivica Zubac during the previous game. Another person with their name present is small forward Tim Hardaway Jr., who has been listed as ‘doubtful’. Hardaway Jr. had secured an average score of 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists during the regular season. Therefore, his absence, combined with that of Doncic, can help in giving the Clippers the momentum they need.

Kawhi Leonard Playoff stats vs Mavericks

Kawhi Leonard’s return to the Clippers lineup was a highly anticipated moment. After all, this was the same player who secured an average of 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists during the 68 games of the regular season. Unfortunately, there has been a steep drop in his performance since his return.

In his two recent playoff games against the Dallas Mavericks, Leonard has managed to average a score of 12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. His shooting ability also saw a drop, as he went 5.5-12 with his field goals 1-1.5 with his free throws, and 0-2.5 with his 3-pointers. During his most recent game, he was on the court for 25 minutes but could only manage to add 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists.

The Clippers realize that it will take time for their star player to get back in form. This is the reason small forward Paul George recently put out a statement in support of Leonard and said “We gotta cover and pick up the slack and appreciate what he’s giving us … We know he’s not 100%, but he’s trying to suit up and give us what he can.” Unfortunately, time is not something that Leonard has, since the remaining playoff games will be here soon.
