Are the Lakers really a better fit for Donovan Mitchell than the Cavaliers? Let's hear your thoughts!

The 24-year-old guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Darius Garland’s future, is left up in the air with his falling in the trade market this year. The Cavs wanted to trade their guard. However, the conditions are not ideal for their front office. Also, a new revelation from the Cavs insider Chris Fedor has shut down the rumors of tension going on between Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland. Rumors were wandering around the league last month that Garland’s agent, Rich Paul, would discuss a potential trade with the team’s front office if Donovan Mitchell decides to stay in Cleveland on a long-term contract extension.

In fact, two days ago, Donovan Mitchell signed a three-year $150.3 million max contract extension, including a player option for the 2027-28 season, as per ESPN. However, it seems that the first part of the rumor did not fit well with the Cavs point guard, according to Fedor’s revelation. “I had a source tell me that Darius was pissed when he read that and that came out because it wasn’t his own feelings, “ Chris Fedor said on the Wine and Gold Talk podcast. Further adding to his statement, Fedor also negated the possibility of Garland’s departure from the Cavs as well.

“I am not convinced that Darius wants out, I’m not convinced that Darius is unhappy playing alongside Donovan, “ Chris opinionated on Garland’s departure from the Cavaliers. However, there was a time when the Cavs’ point guard’s play was questioned since he only averaged 18 points, 6.5 assists, and 1.3 steals last season over 33.4 MPG. On top of that, his performance got worse in the playoffs, as he only averaged 15.7 per game. With this performance, there were rumors about Darius’ departure to other teams. But as a matter of fact, he is under a five-year, $197.2 million max contract till the 2026-27 season.

Though the no.10 jersey player on the Cavs roster is under contract, a three-team deal was proposed from Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz end. It involved the Los Angeles Lakers since the team is looking for a third star to play alongside LeBron and AD. The perfect third-league team for the deal was the Brooklyn Nets, as per Swartz. The trade involved the Cavs receiving  forward Cam Johnson, guard Austin Reaves, and forward Rui Hachimura.

Also, the Brooklyn Nets, who are rebuilding their roster, would have got PG D’Angelo Russell, SG Jalen Hood-Schifino, F/C Christian Wood, a 2029 first-round pick via the Lakers. At last, the deal for the Lakers on the receiving end was to get PG Darius Garland and G/F Caris LeVert. The main highlight of the proposed trade was the addition of the third All-Star to Rob Pelinka’s squad.

Along with the team benefits, the Laker’s front office would have also gotten rid of the $2.2 million, keeping them below the luxury line. But it was just a proposal that holds pragmatic value. If the Lakers’ administration goes with it, it will definitely be a win-win situation for all three teams. What’s your prediction for the possibility of such a trade? Let us know in the comments.
