Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell came online to show support for Edwin Diaz after the New York Mets lost 9-10 to the Miami Marlins on Saturday. Following the game, Diaz broke down emotionally in the locker room after speaking with reporters. Mitchell took to Twitter to encourage the fellow athlete and offered words of encouragement.

Journalist Steve Gelbs disclosed that Diaz’s teammates, Francisco Lindor and Sean Reid-Foley, came over to console the player. It seems that the season has taken a toll on him. The Mets also announced that Diaz would be stepping back from his role as closer.

Known for his love for baseball, Mitchell reshared a post about Diaz’s unfortunate incident and said, “Take your time brotha!! Clearly not the same right now! He will be back! #LFGM,” His sincere words urged Diaz to take his time until he’s ready to make a come back. The post that Mitchell replied to read, “Edwin Diaz broke down in tears at his locker when he was done speaking with reporters after yesterday’s loss, per [@SteveGelbs]. Francisco Lindor and Sean Reid-Foley consoled him. The Mets say Diaz is taking a temporary step back from the closer role.” 

 

Mitchell’s words of encouragement show the sense of camaraderie that he harbors for the Mets player. The hashtag ‘LFGM’ is an abbreviation for; Let’s F**king Go Mets, Donovan is a loyal fan. The Mets are hopeful that their star player will recover soon and bounce back like he always has. But the Mets locker room is not the only pot that has been stirring. There have been rumors about trouble at the Cleveland Cavaliers too.

According to Cleveland.com, sources said that Mitchell “grew frustrated with some teammates’ lack of maturity, focus, playoff-level readiness and a willingness to listen” during the 2023-24 season. The Cavaliers were eliminated after the Boston Celtics beat them in five games in the Eastern Conference semifinals. But Donovan was quick to reply to rumors and immediately shut them down. He tweeted, Yeah aight
I’m sick of yall sometimes!”

There has reportedly been tensions between Mitchell and Cavs’ Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff. On Dec 18, in a game against the Houston Rockets, the player was on court for a staggering 45 minutes. According to the Athletic, when Bickerstaff asked Mitchell to step out, the player refused. And then for the team’s next four games, the player was absent due to a mysterious illness. Sources have said that Mitchell did not feel confident in his Head Coach. And if the Cavs are looking to sign an extension with Donovan, they might need to factor this in. Mitchell is not alone in this feeling, this sentiment is apparently shared by his teammates.
