Tim Hardaway Jr. has been a lucrative asset for the Dallas Mavericks after their star players Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. However, his omission from the Western Conference Finals and the Championship Series games is concerning. Due to the shooting slump that he experienced this season, he only played roughly 8 minutes in Game 1 of the Finals in the first half. On top of that, Coach Kidd restrained him from the bench for the whole second game against the Celtics in the Finals. Apparently, Tim Hardaway Jr got sidelined as the season approached its end. But it might get more than that.

After the Finals defeat, Hardaway’s father uploaded an Instagram post congratulating his son for having a great season. However, just like the last season, one of the fans sensed something off. Going by the user ID of fadesbygriff, he commented, “They shipping him out after this season😂” Interestingly, Hardaway Sr. responded to that comment with his statement, “Yes they are. And we want to have a new opportunity to shine. We did not like what happen. We are ready to go.” It’s not new for the Mavericks guard’s father to roast his team and colleagues. But the fact that the comment got deleted creates suspicion. Additionally, Hardaway’s contract is expiring at $16.2 million, so Patrick Dumont’s front office might look for an upgrade by dropping Tim, as per NBA Insider.

It also seems legible when we connect the dots. The luxury tax, according to the league rules, is $178 million. The Mavericks are already avoiding the luxury tax, as they have to pay $176 million to their team, including Hardaway Jr. If they let go of their guard, they will have about 18 million in total to get some bench strength for them. Moreover, they can acquire a decent guard with the amount of money they withhold.

What are the explorations for the Dallas Mavericks for replacing Tim Hardaway Jr?

Honestly, Tim Hardaway Jr. just did not fit in his role at the Mavericks, even when Kidd gave him many chances. His 1-of-8 shooting against the Sixers compelled the team to put Jaden Hardy in his place. Surprisingly, Hardy has strengthened the bench as his efficiency and defense contributed to the team. While Doncic and Irving rested in the late quarters of the game, he provided back support to the Mavericks.

The 21-year-old point guard has improved the team’s defensive rating to 112.6. Moreover, one of his best deliveries this year was against the Timberwolves when he scored 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Due to his consistency, Hardy averaged 11.5 MPG, posting 6.2 PPG after Game 5 against OKC in the Western Conference semifinals. Kidd has someone who just fits the role.

Even if the coach looks for someone from free agents, there is some scope. Yet, for now, Hardy is giving results. Another point guard who can enter the team is James Harden. However, there is no official hope for that now. Who do you think should the Mavericks go with? Let us know in the comments.
