Phoenix can now celebrate Christmas wholeheartedly. The Suns finally got the dub they were looking for as Kevin Durant is back in the groove at just the right time, yet again. But his Christmas celebration turned sour as his ever-vocal habit on social media got him into trouble with a few fans.

The first Christmas game of the year between the Knicks and the Spurs had a pulsating finish. With most of the viewers savoring it, some took offense to the common 3-point shooting by big men of the league of recent days. A Clippers fan shared a video from the Knicks vs. Spurs game featuring Karl-Anthony Towns, where the Dominican hits a 3-pointer and flashes a victory face afterwards. The fan pointed out, “7 footers jacking up 3s & making faces. Back then they would dunk on each other and make faces 🤷🏻‍♂️.”

To defend the honor of his fellow NBA stars, Durant jumped into the debate and wrote, “Nostalgia got this man in every wrestling move u can think of, we all wish we could be a kid again and experience life with no responsibilities, everything seemed better back then. Then u grow up.”

This was not the first time Durant engaged in heated debates online. And even on the special day, he wasn’t having any of the criticisms fans had in store over the modern-day NBA product. Another X user, who emphasized that they do not want to watch the 7-footers play like “Filipino kids at La Fitness” since “It was entertaining in 2007, not in 2027,” got a befitting reply for the 36-year-old. “U ain’t see wemby go for 40 and KAT cook in that third? I really feel sorry for u, them boys gave u everything u wanna see from a big today. Lock in man,” he responded.

His mindset wasn’t like this the entire day, though. Before the heated exchange, Kevin Durant was in a good mood, enjoying their win on the holiday.

It was Kevin Durant’s 12th Christmas game, and 11 out of 12 times, he managed to score over 20 points, making it a special occasion for him. His contemporaries, Stephen Curry and LeBron James, also had standout performances, adding 38 and 31 points, respectively.

When asked about his feelings in the postgame courtside interview, KD said, “So many great talents in this league. I mean, not just us 3. You see Jokic tonight. You see a hall of famer, a icon in Russell out here tonight. You see so many great young players around the league today. It was amazing day for basketball. I’m grateful I was able to play on this great day and entertain the fans and get a win at home, so I’m grateful.”

Sure, the Nuggets players performed really well, but Durant and Co. were on fire. Both KD and Bradley Beal contributed a joint game-high of 27 points each, and by the end of the game, they secured the win with a 110-100 victory. And what could be better than a win on Christmas Day? But it couldn’t last long because of the X fans.
