Amid the glum mood in the Bay Area, Draymond Green broke his silence on Klay Thompson‘s exit. Notably, the looming rumors have already set the attention on the power forward, regarding his $100 million Dubs offer. The Warriors’ management offered a 4-year contract with an eight-digit salary ahead of the previous season, whereas Klay was left hanging with a $48 million choice. Nevertheless, DrayMagic ignored all of that and narrated the moment when Thompson revealed his Dallas Mavericks move.
In the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, Green took the Dub nation back a few hours, reminiscing about when he learned about China Klay’s exit. He added that he couldn’t talk the star out of it, as he said, “When Klay told me I was just able to listen. It wasn’t like a ‘Yo, we could finish together like this’ or ‘you should rethink this’. It was just like ‘Wow, like alright, congrats bro. I’m happy for you. That’s dope.'”

Moreover, Green further went on to define the relationship that he will have with the star shooter. He continued, “Obviously, to reassure that changes nothing for us. Changes the basketball court, obviously. But the relationships, they are what they are. They are forever. The connection, the bond. Even as far as all of us being mentioned, together, that will never change. This morning, maybe earlier today, I think I might have dropped a couple of tears. Tear or two.”

Klay Thompson’s GSW break-up was on the cards for a good 3 months. Even though the issue was regarding the Dubs front office’s refusal to make a better offer, Draymond Green eventually got linked to the trouble. Months before Thompson rejected the $48 million offer, DG signed the massive $100 million deal, extending his stay in the franchise.
This eventually made many speculate that Klay developed a rift with Dray for the pay-related discrimination/ preferential treatment or whatever that may be. Nevertheless, the star has squashed it all after revealing the emotional moment between the teammates.
What could the Dubs have done to avoid Klay Thompson’s exit?
Klay declined the $48 million offer in search of a bigger deal but ended up signing a $50 million contract for three years with the Mavs. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Luka Donic and Co. offered a bigger deal for 4 years, but the Splash Brother decided to settle for the $50 million with an ambition to win a 5th ring. However, the Warriors could have done a similar thing to keep the sharpshooter happy.
Going by the rumor that Green’s $100 million offer had affected the relationship, a popular Bay Area podcaster pitched in an idea to keep Thompson happy, months ago. He suggested that the team could match the annual pay of both stars by offering Klay a $75 million 3-year deal. Notably, with this suggestion, both players could earn $25 million each for the next couple of years. However, it was the Mavs who read the situation and acted differently, offering him a two-year contract with an annual salary of $25 million.

Nevertheless, the dotted lines already have been inked by the sharpshooter. The team is far from patching up. Maybe Klay can reunite with the Golden State Warriors, like how Dwyane Wade reunited with the Miami Heat after drifting away for a brief stint.
