The news of Kyrie Irving being kicked out of the Nike deal made headlines. For a time. Irving is no stranger to being at the top of controversies. From his scientific claim to the latest antisemitic views, Uncle Drew is surely a lover of the spotlight. It has to be the spotlight, right? Whatever reasons he has for creating such a buzz, it’s a sure thing that Kyrie is not done with it.

After blowing up the Nike contract, the Chinese sports apparel company, ANTA, approached him. And he signed off on the deal. Aside from the global reach basketball has, Irving’s presence will ensure ANTA’s market value in America is a done thing. Talking about his life’s work, Kyrie is passionate about the responsibility he has to shoulder as the CCO.

The management should also hope so because ANTA is a Chinese company and for them to have an impressionable market in the US would mean great heights.

It is a no-brainer that ANTA’s move to get Irving on board was a smart one. The 31-year-old has a loyal fan base.

 

Even with all his controversies, Uncle Drew remains a favorite with many. It could be his magnificent ball-handling skills or simply the tit-for-tat responses Irving serves to his haters.

After all, it was his and LeBron’s pair that ended the 52-year gap of the championship dry spell in the Cavaliers. You have got to give the credit where it’s due, wouldn’t you agree?

Nike has become the platform for many top names and promising talents to give them a taste of business. Aside from the hefty NBA contracts, such deals also offer them a crash course in the business aspect of things!

Two of these names are King James and Michael Jordan. Bron had made headlines recently by signing a lifetime contract with Nike. The trust they have in James is touching. But from a more realistic perspective, LeBron is the ultimate celebrity athlete out there. With close to minimal issues in his lifetime, the family man that he is, and the international recognition that follows him everywhere, Nike couldn’t be more happy.

Michael Jordan‘s deal with Nike is also not at all behind. In fact, in 2022, his Nike deal made him approximately $256 million. No wonder he is the richest athlete ever. So, even though Irving could have been in a similar status in the near future, his ANTA contract provides him with much more flexibility and ownership.
