This year’s trade deadline is only 72 hours away. With that little window, teams and their front offices are nailing down their shortlist for the season. The Boston Celtics are one of the major teams actively pursuing a trade at this time. This is intriguing because their roster with the addition of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingas seems like the recipe for success, as they sit atop the league with 38 wins and only 12 losses.
Although this last-moment interest in the deadline might seem like a lateral move from the Celtics, the front office is probably right about the decision. In the modern era of the Celtics, with Tatum and Brown at the helm, they reached the finals and have been among the top NBA teams, but still fell short. The last-minute trade might help them tweak their rooster exactly according to their post-season needs.
According to sources from HoopsHype, the Celtics aim to improve their bench for the playoffs by combining some of their minimum contract players and draft picks. They have shown interest in various trade targets such as Kelly Olynyk, Delon Wright, and Andre Drummond. While Drummond could fit within their current trade package, acquiring Olynyk and Wright might require additional assets.

Drummond is averaging 7.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals this season for the Chicago Bulls off the bench with a playing time of 15.8 minutes a night. However, the highlight of his season is his field goal percentage which is at 55.3%. On the other hand, 32-year-old Olynyk, a former Celtic, has averages of 8.1 points, 4.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds a night. Wright is the underachiever in this lot with 4.4 points and 1.1 steals a night.
Despite Boston’s interest in Drummond, four other teams are eyeing him. And the Celtics have to be precise to be able to bag him.

According to HoopsHype’s own Michael Scotto, Drummond has “drawn trade interest” from the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Phoenix Suns. All four teams mentioned by Scotto are vying for a playoff berth this season and need additional frontcourt depth. Drummond stands out as an elite rebounder and reliable rim protector, qualities that could significantly bolster the defense of any team struggling in that area.
Scotto highlighted Drummond’s impressive per-36 rebounding average, which is currently at a career-high of 18.9. Additionally, Drummond has proven his productivity when given substantial playing time, averaging 14 points and 17.4 rebounds in 27.7 minutes during his seven starts.
