The city of Boston is set to liven up as the victors of the 2023-24 NBA season, the Boston Celtics, will take center stage during the ‘Duck Boat Parade’ being held in their honor. With the event set to be underway, the players have started to turn up to greet over a million people, who will line up the parade route to catch a glimpse of the winners, amid a heat crisis. The latest person to show up is the team’s shooting guard Jaylen Brown, possibly continuing his tirade of proving one of his biggest critics wrong.

As Brown made his way to his destination, he clutched onto the Finals MVP trophy he secured after helping the Celtics establish a 4-1 record against the Dallas Mavericks. The 27-year-old was all smiles as he greeted and fist-bumped an onlooker.

Fans may have also noticed Jaylen Brown donning a custom-made T-Shirt carrying the quote “STATE YOUR SOURCE”. Those who have followed Brown know exactly who the quote refers to. For those who don’t, Jaylen Brown may have just taken another dig at renowned ESPN sportscaster Stephen A. Smith.

Jaylen Brown and Stephen A. Smith have indulged in a public feud since May. It all started when the sportscaster discussed the player during ‘First Take’. He highlighted a quote by an undisclosed source, which stated “Jaylen Brown, it’s not so much that he is underrated, it’s that he’s just not liked because of his ‘I am better than you’ attitude. He knows it. It’s the same reason he is not as marketable as he should be”.

It didn’t take long for the comments to reach Brown. Possibly believing that Smith made up a source to not take the blame for the critique, Brown took to X to say “State your source”. The Celtics star received support from Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas, who told Stephen A. Smith to “tell your source to put their name on it or don’t speak on it. Let it be known”.

The sportscaster, however, refused to reveal the true person behind the remark. Judging from his T-shirt, Jaylen Brown isn’t ready to let go of Stephen A. Smith’s ‘undisclosed source’.

Stephen A. Smith praised Jaylen Brown’s Finals MVP accomplishment

After the event at the end of May, Stephen A. Smith has been trying to make amends with Brown. During a segment later, he praised Brown for being a “Brilliant young man” and a “Superstar caliber kind of talent”. It continued once the Celtics secured the Larry O’Brien trophy and Jaylen Brown was named the Finals MVP.

In the aftermath of the finals, the 56-year-old praised Celtics lead scorer Jayson Tatum for delivering a commendable performance. But he emphasized that Jaylen Brown deserved the MVP title. Smith credited Brown for the tone he set for the Celtics and for the fact that he went up against Mavericks lead scorer Luka Doncic, in the process.

“Doing that, while still being a model of consistency in Games 1 and 2……. the models of consistency for Games 1, 2, and 3 were Jaylen Brown. I think that ultimately usurps what we say from Jayson Tatum in Games 3, and 5, to secure MVP honors of the series,” Smith said.

Jaylen Brown might let Stephen A. Smith and his previous remarks be a thing of the past one day. However, that day is certainly not today as the Celtics parade is about to get underway.
