Does Carmelo Anthony's struggle highlight a bigger problem with how the NBA treats its legends?

The summer of KD & Ant has become a hot trend within the NBA community. The Timberwolves ace idolized the Slim Reaper. In Paris, it seemed like he never left his side. Even Durant let his guard down, being receptive to having Ant around him at all times, mentoring him, and helping him navigate his career. The NBA could witness the creation of a new duo. However, Carmelo Anthony thinks they are just being athletes.

Melo isn’t talking about strange waters. He once had a great relationship with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, but they never got together. The Hall of Famer could just be himself around them, and so could they. That’s how he sees the dynamic to be between Durant and Edwards. Off the court, they can be great friends. That doesn’t mean it will interfere with ‘their job’.

“Athletes just get comfortable with their environment and who they around and like people that just can relate to what they say relate to and speak the same language that they speak. That’s why you see athletes with athletes… We joke the same. You get what I’m saying? It’s like little inside jokes, words and s**t that nobody else, you know what I’m saying. So it’s different. That’s your job,”. he said on his 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast.

Currently, Durant and Anthony Edwards are both settled in their teams. After a brief trade rumor, Suns owner Matt Ishbia took a public stance in favor of KD. He told the NBA universe about the Slim Reaper loving Phoenix and staying put. Edwards, on the other hand, had his knighting take place last season. He is the pack leader for the Wolves, leading them to a WCF.

Maybe in the last few years of Kevin Durant, he will pursue a dream team-up alongside a matured Ant-Man. Whether it happens or not, the infatuation both share for one another makes fans wish they were teammates.

Before the bonding experience in Paris, the NBA fraternity can remember the frame from the latest playoffs. After hitting a three over Durant, Edwards gave him the business, eventually sweeping him. Ideally, a star would take that to heart and intend to strike back. But Durant could be seen laughing. It’s because he realized what Anthony Edwards is made of.

“We always had respect for him, but it just went to another level playing against him and seeing him compete,” he said in an interview with Yahoo Sports.

During the same interview, the excellent scorer admitted Edwards to be like a “sponge”. His yearning to master the game enables Edwards to absorb key lessons while watching greatness in front of him. He got the opportunity in Paris, surrounded by the most decorated stars in the modern NBA. And Edwards didn’t waste his chance.

He willingly shed his vigor to be the star and let the veteran cavalry take on the big moments. Whenever his number was called, Edwards answered. Apart from that, he played the role of an expert defender outstandingly, helping Steve Kerr establish a spotless offensive system that relied on ball sharing.

If he keeps learning, Anthony Edwards has the potential to be the face of the NBA. And with the current dynamic, the moment seems to be around the corner.
