Are the media too quick to fabricate drama around Bronny James and the Lakers?

Steve Brenner. Ring any bells? A handful, probably. The guy who wrote the viral article on how Bronny James received “star treatment” which in turn caused friction among teammates in the Summer League. How about now? Yeah? Yup! It’s been almost a fortnight since the controversial write-up was published. But it certainly ruffled a lot of feathers. And it looks like the cycle hasn’t ended. Not just yet.

Not without Gilbert Arenas, providing his take on the whole shebang. In the latest episode of No Chill Gill, the ex-Warriors star had some harsh truths for The U.S. Sun‘s Brenner. “When I was on vacation, I looked at it like, ‘That’s some bullsh*t.’ The reason I say that is this. Think about a roster of Summer League players. Those players are trying to make a team. Those players are fighting for their lives, which means if you ask them a question about Brony James, trust me, they’re going to think this is a trick.”

“So they will be saying the most politically correct things that they can possibly [say]. They will over-exaggerate because he’s the guy on the team! So these guys trying to make the team would not have nothing bad to say. It would be career suicide!” Arenas said decisively.

Although Gil just put this reporter in the spotlight again, the statements from the anonymous teammate are pretty strong. Considering the diverse experience of over 20 years, Brenner has, which includes stints with several national newspapers like Daily Mirror, Guardian, The Times, etc., it seems rather a rookie mistake to publish something of this nature without solid proof. But here’s where it gets interesting because Arenas wasn’t done.

“You got called out in real-time,”: Arenas puts the Bronny James rift-rumor author on the stand

“You wrote a story that said a teammate said it. And a teammate came out and said, ‘Bullsh*t! It’s fake, it’s made up.'”

Gil continued, making his case that the Bronny James story was indeed fabricated. “You got called out in real time! Usually, there’s no one that comes and checks you. Someone did. Now, unfortunately, you’re going to have to now correct this… Right now, you are being called as fake news and you are on the clock now to have a comeback to that. ”

So far, there has been no movement from the U.S. Sun or Brenner’s side. However, with Arenas, a popular name in both the NBA and media industry, making his case, along with evidence, it seems to be a cul-de-sac for the parties on the other end. James Jr., for his part, is no stranger to criticism and ridicule. The 19-year-old knows that his surname will always put him in the limelight.
