Stephen Curry’s dedication to his craft never fails to impress. Curry’s college basketball coach, Bob McKillop recently shared a motivating anecdote about Curry’s unwavering work ethic. Bob McKillop revealed how he had gone to see Curry after his game against the Portland Trail Blazers in New Oracle. It was the 79th or 81st game in the season. Curry and McKillop were scheduled to have dinner after the heated game against the Trail Blazers, but McKillop found himself waiting for Curry in the player lounge. He had to wait for more than 90 minutes.

But while McKillop figured it might have been due to his press conference, Curry was hitting the gym. McKillop questioned Curry’s tardiness when he finally arrived. Curry simply replied, “Coach I was lifting.” McKillop revealed how Curry went lifting after playing his 79th game in the season. Curry felt the need to work on his core and his stamina as he felt that he was not where he should be while preparing for the playoffs.

Curry’s commitment to self-improvement, however, didn’t stop at that instance. McKillop went on to recall another instance of Curry’s post-game commitment.

He continued, “This year I go watch him play in Charlotte. I bought Kathy, my wife with us. And we go to see him after the game, can’t find him. He’s in the hallway, working on the bike. No, he just got done playing a single or double overtime game against Charlotte Hornets. He wasn’t playing three-quarters of the game, he played the whole game.

Plus, overtime and here he is working on a bike before he gets on a charter plane to leave. That’s the kind of intensity that makes him who he is.”

In the 2008 men’s NCAA tournament, Curry an ‘underrated’ and underappreciated high school guard emerged from obscurity to capture the nation’s attention. He led the 10th-seeded Davidson squad on a spectacular run to the Elite Eight, defeating mighty foes like Gonzaga, Georgetown and Wisconsin, all while exhibiting incredible three-point accuracy.

As the seventh overall choice in the NBA draft the following year, fate brought him to the Warriors. This critical turning point paved the door for an epic narrative that includes four NBA titles, two MVP awards and a complete revolution of basketball strategy.

Meanwhile, as McKillop emphasized, Curry put a lot of work into himself.

Stephen Curry can deadlift almost twice his weight

Keke Lyles, the former director of athletic performance for the Golden State Warriors, shed light on Stephen Curry’s herculean strength in 2015. In an interview with ESPN’s Tom Haberstroh, Lyles asserted that Curry’s strength in the gym considerably exceeds popular belief, saying, “He’s probably 10 times stronger than what people think.”

Curry’s impressive feat of deadlifting a startling 400 pounds serves as an example of his tremendous power. As a safer alternative that simulates lifting a large boulder, the trapbar deadlift has been the Warriors’ go-to workout. The gluteus maximus, a significant muscle group, is the focus of this workout.

And according to a recent tweet, the Warrior is still at it, going for three reps per set.

Curry’s domination in the weight room is a secret to his skill on the floor. Lyles notes that his core strength rather than merely raw power supports Curry’s basketball magic. Lyles admits, “We knew he was strong, but when he started pushing that kind of weight, I was like, ‘This guy is just a freak.'”

Curry is renowned for his tremendous shooting ability and agility. But his effort to develop a strong physique behind the scenes adds a whole new level of respect for the basketball legend.
